Gradebooks and Academic Progress

There are 6 weeks left in the trimester – that’s it!! WOW. Some things to be thinking about NOW, so that we are planning backwards:

  • plan to send out a midterm progress report by middle of this week (Monday Oct 21st: week 7 of 11)
  • plan to be selecting (and reflecting on) tasks that will be shared at Student Led Conferences by week 10 (Tuesday Nov 12)
  • review the Cheat Sheet for Gradebook Expectations at Realms HS so that you are lining yourself up well
  • we will review any questions related to this during the SLC portion of our Wednesday SIW this week

Upcoming Site Seminar and Radical Intensive Ideas

OK – we have 2 slots for an upcoming site seminar at what looks like a pretty “radical” EL Education HS – William Smith in Colorado on Nov 14th and 15th (depart on afternoon of Wed Nov 13th. Their website is underwhelming but I found there 17-18 course catalog and they teach ALL SUBJECTS in short “Intensive Style” courses that sound SUPER COOL. Check out page 12 & 13 of this course catalog and be prepared to see some amazing ideas for Intensive classes here!!

SO far the folks who have indicated interest are: Michelle, Kat, Karen, Mark

Student Led Conferences

Planning out the sign ups right now! Looking at shortening the conference by 5 minutes (from 45 – 40 based on fewer classes to discuss) and I have drafted a couple of suggested modifications to the agenda.

Also, in order to try and “even out” the number of students each teacher conferences with I am suggesting Karla identifies a number of 9th and 10th graders in each Crew that she will conference with instead of the Crew teach – this tab in our student lists doc shows an example with possible students KLL conferences with highlighted in yellow… feel free to modify! If we make this work, no teacher would be conferencing with more than 15 students.

Conferences will go Wednesday afternoon from 2:00 – 5:40 and then Thursday 8:00 –

Google Classroom for Parents?

I have heard from a few parents that a couple of classes seem to be sending weekly updates to parent’s email (11th grade Gov class and one or two others). I believe this only happens when the teacher sends an invite out to parents, and parents can then opt in or out. I want to check in on whether or not folks think this might actually be helpful (or not?!) for parents. I do believe that we have some students (for ex. on IEP’s and 504’s) that might benefit from the added parent communication? Please think about this and be ready to share thoughts on Wednesday. Thanks!

Mental Health Support

Shannon Hodgin from The Child Center will be on campus every Friday. There will be a “referral form” to connect kids to Shannon. Students must not already be receiving counseling elsewhere. Contact myself or Cora or Alix to make a referral. We will also review caseloads at our MTSS meeting every 2 weeks.

Cora Crabtree – Cora will be starting some groups on campus… communication and anxiety for now, as well as facilitating our GSA. Cora already has a referral form she has developed (simpler than the Child Center one) Cora is on campus Mondays, Fridays and half day Thursday.
