Staff Update: Week of 4-28-20

Next Week’s Schedule on the RHS@Home site is ready for your live links etc.

Thanks for keeping our Weekly Schedule updated with your tweaks and updated links!

Need Some Work From Home Survival Equipment?

I know that working from home is hard and that the heavy screen time is physically demanding and can cause injury/stress. You all are doing an awesome job with the juggle and I am SO IMPRESSED!!

However, if this shift has taken a toll on you physically due to the increase in screen time, and if you feel like your physical health is suffering and you need something to improve your work station at home, we have set aside a budget that you can access on a needs basis! For now, I have set aside a max budget of $500 for equipment with the idea that a staff member could submit a “need” request to access needed equipment. If we need more, I can reassess!

This equipment could come back and be used at school once we are all back in the building. I can imagine some folks might be struggling with wrist and/or neck issues, and there ARE keyboards, stands, and other products that might help!??!

If you are struggling with an issue – please COPY this form, fill it out, and submit it to Jennifer and I. We will get back to you!

Jen’s Awesome Idea For Supporting Our Juniors – can you pitch in?!!

From Jen Rule: I’ve been racking my brain of how to get our juniors to engage in some work. I hate seeing them like this. I’m trying everything I can think of. Calling, texting, grabbing them at the end of crew, you name it. Then Max came up with the idea of writing notes and making care packages for his friends that he misses so much. We delivered them on bikes to his 4 close friends. All the parents said it meant so much to their kids.

So I thought why couldn’t we do this for our juniors, just a little something to let them know that we care about them and really want to help them succeed even if we’re all at home. I’m working on getting some fun yummy treats that I know they like and making small “We miss you, we are here for you” type packages for all the juniors. I’d like to put a personalized note from a staff member to a student in each package. Can you help?

Here’s what we’d like from you: choose a couple of kids to write a note to that will go with the care package. If we all take 2-4 kids we’ll have it covered. This shouldn’t take you long – here are the instructions to upload!

Grading Guidance – Thank you all!

Thanks to the teaching team and the ICCL team for working on this! I think it is the right landing spot! NOW, our job is to try and keep those scores up to date and to get parents and students to check ParentVue and hopefully use it as a tool for motivation and engagement!

Parent/Student facing document is here and will be sent out Friday afternoon. If you haven’t reviewed the grading plan with your Crew, PLEASE PLAN ON DOING THAT MONDAY in Crew!

Here is the internal “teacher facing plan” that includes my recent suggestions to keep grading light, efficient and generous! ACTION ITEM – we still need to finish up and land on a consistent practice for Crew grading. Lets get this done next week. If you have suggestions, use the COMMENT feature inside the Google Doc in the Crew Section

On MY To Do List For Next Week

I just want you to know what is on my mind right now that I know we need to be working on!

Some of this might be ripe for shared collaborative leadership teams to work on during Thursday breakouts:

  • Staffing Plan for 20-21. New, revised numbers are now out. We need to get a staffing plan in to Katie by next Friday
  • Master Schedule for 20-21. As soon as we have a reasonable staffing plan with our new total FTE, we need to get to work on nailing down a master schedule for next year
  • Junior Class Motivation WebEx?
  • Forecasting Current Students. Once we have a master schedule (actually, concurrently with building our master schedule) we need to make sure we have kids into the right classes for next year. Jen has begun a forecasting spreadsheet that should help us A LOT!
  • Facilities Sharing Plan. Mike and I need to sit down with the big blueprints and talk turkey with respect to classrooms and shared spaces.
  • And about 10 mire things!

BETTER WORLD DAY IDEA!!??

I know we have a lot on our plates, so I am not sure how hard to push this, but I still LOVE the idea of getting our student to think beyond themselves! We have $500 for a Better World Day Project – and I know that Karen Agocs already has a cool Call For COVID-19 Art project with some of our students.

I have another possible idea that I wanted to see if anyone was interested in. The theme for BWD this year is messages of appreciation for our front line and essential workers in our community.

I recently came across this video created by Ridgeview HS students in appreciation of THEIR TEACHERS!! It is pretty cool… Here is an article about what they did and their video is below.

What if we were to get our student inspired to do something similar for essential workers in our community?? Create it and then get it onto the news with KTVZ??

Thanks for reminding us about Earth Day Heidi!
