We are ready to roll!!! Well…. MOSTLY!

ALL STAFF – Please make sure you look through the middle and high school first day schedules linked below! Please pay special attention to:

  • start of day and end of day duties outlined for Wednesday & Thursday
  • any of the remaining comments which typically indicate something that needs attention and usually have been delegated
  • the rotations – make sure you are clear on what you are running and that you have your materials!

ALSO Some Friday Weirdness…

  • High School is normal, plus a community meeting (Admin & Allie) being held during Crew. There will be a Crew agenda for you soon!
  • Middle School‘s schedule is adjusted to have a community meeting during last period of the day because we are NOT READY to hold our 1st elective classes yet!. See the adjusted schedule here. This will also buy us a few extra days to make sure electives are in order!

A Few SAFETY BASICS As We Start Up

The building doors will remain locked until 8:20 a.m.  You will need to use your key or keyless entry card to enter the building in the mornings.

Doors should never be left unlocked and unattended! At 9:00AM, all campus doors are locked and remain locked for the day. Doors should never be left unlocked or propped open unless attended by a staff member (line of sight).

All BLSD employee are required to wear their ID badge & have their keys on campus.

In general, staff are supposed to remain on campus for their prep period. However, if you need to leave campus to run an errand, please just let the office know (an email, call, or drop by) so we can account for you in the case of an emergency. Thanks! If you are running out for your lunch, you need not inform the office!

Our emergency evac drill plan is linked here.

Shared Leadership Opportunities Survey

Here is the form from Friday’s Staff Crew last week, with opportunities to sign up for Staff Crew facilitation, Sunshine Committee, and Equity Team. Also… let us know if we are missing a small team!

BEHAVIOR SLIDES REMINDER

Here is the Student Conduct Expectations Slide Deck (MS & HS)

Slides 2 and 3 have the rollout schedule for MS and HS classes, respectively. Please remember to save just a couple minutes to share these slides each period.

High School Late Work Policy

Here is the updated school wide Late Work Policy. It is not TOO different from what we shared last week, but does include a little more clarity and teacher guidance/flexibility. Thank you for your input!

EDPUZZLE PRO Account For Realms MS/HS

Some of you use Edpuzzle with lots of success… it can be engaging and a platform for rigorous content exploration and assessment.

Here is the information on our schoolwide account:

  • Teachers that are new to Edpuzzle can get started using your school’s upgrade link to create their account: https://edpuzzle.com/schools/join/pf7akh
  • Everyone that’s already signed up at your school shouldn’t need to take any action!
  • “Level up” with self-paced trainings on the Edpuzzle Resources Page: Teachers can earn a fancy badge and certificate for going through a course (I recommend Level 1 for anyone new to Edpuzzle, and Edpuzzle Coach for your trainers)

BIAS LESSON in CREW – coming soon

This year there is 1 required lessons and 4 other “recommended” lessons. The required lesson must be taught by October 27th, but I suggest we find a week during which we can all agree to launch, so stay tuned.

The three recommended lessons in the series are Wayfinder activities that our equity coaches have carefully selected and sequenced, to facilitate classroom climates conducive to dialogue around identity and bias.

We know Crew gets “jammed up” with a lot of stuff, and we have heard that as a concern from teachers. SO…. the three additional lessons MAY be incorporated as you see fit, AND at the same time, there are probably some of our EL Education pilot lessons that get at the same outcomes. So, you choose as a grade level team!

Actual BLSD bias lesson link coming soon… they will push it out when it’s ready!

RHS: EL Crew Curriculum Pilot Update

Our agreement with EL includes teaching the majority of these lessons..

preparing to teach the EL Crew lessons

Just a heads up that the 2nd month of Crew lessons are now available for you to check out!

EasyCBM – An Ask and an Opportunity

Laurie and Phoebe – the District is asking us to give the EasyCBM assessment near the start of the year. On the upside, this is a pretty good way to get a benchmark on where kids are at – it can also be used for math. Results can be shared with the staff team to inform a better understanding of current levels!

Anita and Lauren, it is not a crazy idea to use the 8th grade spring benchmark in EasyCBM as a quick diagnostic for 9th grade as well!! Results can be shared with the grade level team to inform a better understanding of current levels!

The ASK from the District, as well as a link to the instructions for using EasyCBM are here:
