Updates, Reminders, Info and Rants…

Sub process – unfortunately we are already experiencing sub shortages and there have been several of you that have asked questions about district sub and subs in general.  Here is something I put together that might help clarify things.

Building climate meeting – we put together this guide to help you with your building climate meetings.  Please make a copy of this document for your use and move it to a folder in your own google drive.  If you haven’t already had a climate meeting, now is the time to get them on your calendar.  Our recommendation is that you have a climate meeting each month with your BEA rep.

Staffing plans – now that hiring has calmed down we need everyone to put the final edits on your staffing plan.  Please look at people, positions, and hours and make the necessary updates.  Thanks!

Did you see it?  There’s a new format for the TLC newsletter.  Check it out!

Priority – Prep for Monday’s PD –   On Monday, we are looking forward to meeting at Ensworth Elementary at 3:00 for our first Book Study PD session.  Please make sure you bring your Collective Efficacy book, your black and white journal from our August 10 leadership training, something to write with, and your thoughts about how you want to respond to the following:

  • An assumption you made about collective efficacy before you read the book
  • Two points you agree with from your readings of the first 2 chapters
  • A point from the reading you want to argue or question
  • Two aspirations:  one for you and one for your staff

Staff who do not vaccinate or sign religious/medical exemptions –   If you have staff who are asking you what will happen after 10/18 if they do not get vaccinated or sign an exemption, you are to tell them “As of 10/18, you will no longer be employable.”  You are not to interpret what that means and you can direct them to reach out to HR with additional questions.

Priority – Speaking of vaccinations – We need 100% of your staff to complete the Frontline vaccination form they received via email.  If they cannot find the email from Frontline, have them check the “clutter” and “junk” folders, as it has gone to all three places. This survey asks staff to upload their vax card or their waiver form.  We will be reviewing staff lists next Friday and notifying you of those staff who have not completed this request.  Please provide time or assistance as needed.  This is very important.  Again 100% participation from every staff member at your school.

From Julie re: Lexia –

  • Principals are the leads for their building- they attend Lexia planning and success meetings, communicate to their staffs regarding trainings and plans moving forward, make decisions of how to move forward with Lexia as a building
  • Instructional coach roles are to support integration in classrooms, translate assessments into instructional decisions, attend planning and success meeting

Science Training  – Please note that the Bend Science Station training for 2nd and 3rd grade teachers in October starts at 3 pm.  This means teachers will have to leave before the end of their work day to get to the Science Station on time.  Thank you for accommodating them.

Reminder about schedules – just a few schedules haven’t been put in the folder.  You know who you are!

Department News…

Restorative Practices Training:    Just some clarification about the Restorative Practices flyer that we passed on to you last week.  We had some clarification from the Culture of Care coaches about it.  That particular work is focused on creating a community of practice for current practitioners of Restorative Practices.  In other words, if you have had the Restorative training prior (there are only 2 of you) then you may want to sign up for that on-going collaborative.  That said, we have some good news!  In an effort to move forward with being a community that values restorative practices and trauma informed approaches to working with students who struggle, they are going to do a specific training through IIRP for elementary admins.  The official training lays the groundwork for the why and how behind the work.  It’s important to have that knowledge to use it well.  They are still in the process of finalizing the dates with IIRP, but in the meantime, pencil in October 27 (4 hours in the morning) and November 2 and 4 from 3:30-5:30 as the dates and times we are  reserving for that training.

From Lora re: Educator Network (EN) SIW’s –  The district has designated four SIW’s over the course of the school year “Educator Network” SIW’s:

  • October 13
  • January 12
  • February 9
  • April 20

The purpose of these days is to provide time for four-part district-wide trainings, district PLC meetings, etc. A few examples include content-area meetings for high school language arts and science teachers, training in incorporating strategies to support multilingual students, early literacy best practices, training with Bruce Perry for our student success staff, and an overview of our instructional framework. Three things we want all building leaders to know now:

  1. All certified and building administrative staff (and some classified EA’s) will be required to participate in a strand during the EN SIW’s: this is not individual prep time for any staff. For some staff, a particular strand will be required; for others, choices will be provided.
  2. Most training will be conducted on Webex; a few will be live.
  3. The Teaching and Learning and Student Services departments will be sharing more complete information and training descriptions very soon!

If you have questions, reach out to your level leader, Julie Walker (elementary), or Dean Richards (secondary).

From Sean – We have entered into an agreement for The Child Center to provide onsite counseling services.  HERE is all the information you will need to access this support.

And Finally…

The video below has absolutely nothing to do with education but I thought it was really funny so I wanted to share it with you.  Enjoy and have a great Friday and weekend.
