The Red Zone – Things to definitely do or share
Volunteers – new rules! – last year when we began letting volunteers back in our schools we limited our volunteers to one per class per day. We did this because of lingering covid concerns and because of the number of volunteers we could process per week under the new system. These two limitations are no longer a concern so as of today you can have more than one volunteer per classroom per day. There are no limitations other than having people complete the new volunteer background check process.
From Julie re: Language Arts Curriculum Review Team – Please reserve time on your meeting schedule for a 15 minute session with your staff in order to review the first draft of the core beliefs and give feedback. I will also send you a link to the first draft with a feedback form to include in your newsletters to your families. You will receive this information by December 13th.
Dec 6 ICCL/Admin Training – just a reminder of your location…
The dates have changed for our next cohort day with CEL – Cohort 1 will be March 2nd and Cohort to will be March 3rd. This is a change from the original dates which were March 7th and 8th.
From Stephanie Bent – I have updated all documents and processes in TalentEd for the 22-23 school year including self-reflections and summative evaluations. You should now have the ability to assign to your staff. Please assign the appropriate processes to all probationary and temporary staff and tenured staff that is on an evaluation cycle.
If you need help adding the processes, please give me a call and I will walk you through the process. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Lexia and Dreambox during break – Please include the message below in an upcoming family newsletter and/or have teachers include it in their class newsletters (Spanish translation has been requested and is in process). If teachers are concerned about unwrapping cords and bricks from their charging stations, reach out to your site tech. They have a limited supply of used cords and bricks that could be sent home during the break.
Families – While students are enjoying time away from school during winter break they can keep up on their reading and math by logging into Lexia Core5 and Dreambox Math. Both of these programs can be accessed at home and are a wonderful way to keep up on their reading and math skills. Both of these programs are accessed via Clever. Here’s how:
- visit https://clever.com/in/bls from any internet browser.
- select “Log in with Active Directory”
- username – student’s first and last name, no spaces. example: joejohnson
- password – the special 6-digit code that’s used for all sorts of logins for students in Bend-La Pine
- From Clever, students can access Lexia Core5, DreamBox, Newsela, and more
Note about accessing Lexia from home:
- If families are using a mobile device (tablet/iPad) they will need to install the free Lexia Core5 app in order for Lexia to work, even when they access Lexia from inside Clever
- Lexia Core5 will not work on a small device like a smartphone, iPhone, etc.
- If students are using a computer or laptop, they won’t need to install a Lexia app. They can log into Clever, and then select the Lexia Core5 icon.
- As a reminder, please refrain from helping your student when they are working on Lexia Core5 (or DreamBox) programs away from school. These programs tailor delivery of concepts and skills based on student answers.
- For each of these programs about 20-30 minutes per day is a sufficient amount of time for practice.
Don’t have a device at home? No problem. Families can request that their school iPad be sent home during break. Just reach out to your teacher to make arrangements.
