June 9, 2022

Thank you everyone for attending our last minute meeting this morning.  We know you are doing all you can to keep our kids safe and to provide our families with the peace of mind that their kids are in good hands when they are at school.  Thank you for all your efforts and thank you for keeping safety as our number one priority.  If you ever have any questions about a procedure or a practice please don’t hesitate to call us.

Updates, Reminders, Department Info and Rants…

Congratulations!   We would like to announce the new Assistant Principals starting the ‘22-’23 school year.  Megan Silvey is no longer interim Assistant at La Pine Elementary, as she is now the real deal! Jessica Scott will be leaving the nest at Elk Meadow to join Dan at Juniper this next year and John Craft will be disembarking the train at Silver Rail and be heading to join Jen as Assistant at Miller.  Congratulations to all!  Also, a congratulations to Nick Smith, who will be leaving Student Services at Bear Creek to become Assistant at Sky View Middle–good luck Nick!

From Lora:  Team:  You may or may not be aware that over 30 secondary teachers and administrators have been working all year on an equitable grading team. The culminating product of this group’s work is a list of recommended practices. We have not been updating elementary leaders and their teams because we believed that elementary teachers have already incorporated most of the recommended practices. While I believe this is generally true, we have heard anecdotally that these recommended practices are not universally followed at the elementary level. Please review the following document and plan how to share this with staff as they return in August:  BLS equitable grading recommendations 2022

SMART READING – Tammy and I had the opportunity to meet with representatives from SMART Reading program of Central Oregon.  They are looking forward to re-establishing the program in their schools next year and we gave them our two thumbs up.  If you are a SMART Reading school look for an email from either Amy Luther or Jennifer Zardinejad sometime in August.

From Misty Groom, Student Threat Assessment Program Coordinator – As a partner of Central Oregon Student Threat Assessment System & Team, I am looking for feedback regarding our regional STAS program.  The feedback will be kept anonymous and aggregated as a collective set of feedback that is used as one tool in the evaluation of the STAS program. Any input is very important to us. We are committed to collaboration, continuous improvement and keeping relationships at the center of all we do. The survey link form is: STAS Feedback form.  Once this data is collected, it will be shared with the STAS Advisory Committee.  Thank you for your partnership and if you have any questions, please let me know.

From Kinsey : End-of-Year Translation/Interpretation – This Mon the 13th is the last day before the ESD shifts into their summer mode, and requests will be significantly more expensive and harder to fill after that point.  Please submit any requests for translation/interpretation to Linguist Link ASAP.  Thanks for reminding your teachers and staff as well.

End-of-year items that require translation/interpretation:.

-Report card/Grading comments

-School newsletters and announcements

-End-of-year invitations, events, and awards ceremonies

-Summer resources

-Summer phone message

-Front office hours signage (here is one you can use)

Remember: Liaisons, specialists, and bilingual staff are not currently qualified for translation/interpretation, so plan ahead and use Linguist Link.  If you have a bilingual staff member you would like to have available for this work in the future, make sure they have signed up to start the process.

The Red Zone – Things to do or share

Erin’s Law:  Please submit your Erin’s Law documentation to April Jorgenson if you  have not done so already.

Last week of school schedule:  Be sure to communicate to your families that Wednesday, 6/15 is not an early release day and will go a full day (until 2:10 for most of you).   Thursday, 6/16, the last day of school for students, is an early release day and students will be out at 12:40.

Staffing Plans -Please  keep your staffing plans updated with the most current names, positions, and numbers (as you build classes for the next year and start to get actual numbers, put those in the actual columns).  This really helps us, especially during the summer, as we are trying to answer questions about staffing and enrollments.
