Whew! It is soooo nice to be back in business, see kids running around and schools close to normal. Thank you for everything you’ve done to guide your school communities the last week. You are the face of your school. People (staff, students, parents) look to you for guidance. If you are supportive and happy with decisions being made, they are supportive and happy. If you feel safe in your buildings, they feel safe. If you are complimentary of all the amazing work being done, they are complimentary. If you say everything is going to be fine, they believe everything is going to be fine. The sense that I have been getting everywhere is that people are thankful, appreciate and have faith in the decisions being made and you played an integral part in that. Thank you.
Horizontal Meeting- We’re going to go ahead and postpone our horizontal meeting. We will reschedule for 1/30 at 4:00ish at Jewell. While I do think it would be good to get together soon to cover the agenda AND debrief the last couple weeks, I feel it is more important for you to be at your schools with staff and students and get things back into a normal routine. We’ll have a lot to cover on 1/30, but it can wait a week.
Snow Days, make up days, etc.- As you are aware, Shay is petitioning the state to get a waiver of instructional hours. The state board of education will also be discussing this at an upcoming meeting as we aren’t the only district in the state to have canceled classes this year. There are still many questions out there about make up time for classified, people who have plans for the days we’ve added on and the like. Jon/ HR will soon be sending out an email with some answers to those questions and some other plans moving forward. In the meantime, you can give Jon a call if you have an urgent question.
There are plenty of other things to share, but I won’t take your time as it is more important right now for you to focus your energy on assuring your staff and students and getting your school back into a normal routine. Thank you once again for your leadership. Have a great weekend. See you soon.
