Outdoor School- The outdoor school information that I asked you to cut and paste did not save. My apologies for the waste of time. JoAnne was able to cut and paste all of the information that is the same at each school and input the school contact info. What we don’t have is answers for numbers 12a-n, since they are more school specific. I need to ask you to complete this information asap. This time, we have changed things and then tested, double tested and triple tested to be sure that it would save. Please go to your TEAM DRIVES. Go into the ‘SCHOOL VISITS’ folder. Open ‘Bend La Pine Administrative SD1 2017-2018 School Report Template’ and complete numbers 12a-n. THANK YOU.

In other outdoor school news, we have submitted an application for funds for the 2018-2019 school year and are hopeful it will once again be covered. Thank you for all of your help on this.

From Lora- Instructional Programs/materials- Principals:

Over the last year or two, the district has heard both staff and members of the public refer to programs and/or materials being used in schools or classrooms that have not gone through any curriculum review or adoption process. While our district policies do include “teacher-selected materials,” we would caution your schools against using these materials, especially in areas related to health education. Human trafficking, SEL programming, and human sexuality topics are just some of the issues that might have arisen at your school.

The process we use for health education supplementary curricula involves two steps: 1) review and approval of the materials/speaker by the district health advisory committee, that meets once or twice a year; and 2) presentation of the materials/speaker to the school board for review/approval. Because the list of approved supplementary curricula has not been updated for years, members of the health curriculum review team are doing this as part of their work this spring and summer. Newly proposed materials will be considered beginning in the fall of 2018.

Forefront/ Synergy- Some of our teachers have been using Synergy Gradebook. Jennie Hoffman sent the following to teachers using Gradebook. She will turn on the feature for all teachers beginning May 11. If teachers don’t use Gradebook, they probably won’t even know it is happening, but I wanted you to have this in case you got any questions. The video didn’t paste, so ask Jennie if you really want to see it.

Hi friends,

You are getting this email because you are one of a handful of elementary teachers currently using the Synergy Grade book. I’m implementing a change for next year where all Forefront scores will automatically populate to the Synergy grade book. No more transferring scores…Yay!!! This video gives a quick explanation.

I’ll be turning this feature on district wide on May 11th so most teachers can use it for report cards this spring, but I have EXCLUDED YOU from that transfer for this year because I don’t want to mess with your grade books without your permission.

However, it is super easy for me to include you if you want to be included. I just want to be sure you understand exactly how it will affect you. If I turn it on for you, a bunch of assignments will automatically appear in your grade book and you’ll need to decide if you want to use your own Synergy grade book scores or the magical Forefront scores when you do report cards.

What I need from you:

  1. If you want me to leave your grade book alone then I don’t need anything. You will automatically be excluded for this year.
  2. If you want the Forefront scores to appear in your Synergy Grade book (as explained here) then just reply to this email and say “Oh, please include me!” ☺
  3. If you have questions before deciding I’m happy to schedule a meeting (or phone call) to explain more thoroughly (I can even show you a sample of your gradebook with the forefront scores if that helps)

The weekend’s weather report looks really nice. I hope you are able to get outside and enjoy it and don’t forget to tell a mother how much she means to you.
