Thanks for your time and attention at our meeting this morning. Thank you for your grace and patience as we work through staffing. Thanks most of all for all of your hard work and time getting ready for staff and students. I know next week will be as exciting as it is hectic, but your work is setting the table for thousands of students who will walk through our doors in less than two weeks. Thank you.
I’ll try to keep this week’s notes brief. See you Monday morning at Sky View for the new teacher orientation.
Staffing- Last I checked we were only 4 under projection at elementary level. That is good news, but still does not change the fact that we have schools needing more staff and we don’t have enough students to hire, so we will have to make transfers. I will be in close touch with those impacted throughout the day Monday. I will also be contacting folks about ACR’s. Don’t hesitate to call me if you have questions/thoughts.
SIW Teacher Choice Day- Please choose a day for each month for elementary teachers to have their teacher directed day. Days each month with the most votes will be our days. I’ve listed conference Wednesdays and District SIW’s in the narrative at the top.
Gallup/ Bright Bytes- We have decided to discontinue the administration of Brightbytes and Gallup surveys beginning this school year. More info to come re: possible replacements.
Mental Health Training Opportunity- Youth Mental Health First Aid training: Whitney Schumacher, MPH, Suicide Prevention Coordinator through our Deschutes County Health Services partner, has organized a Youth Mental Health First Aid training for staff. Staff that usually find this 8-hour training useful are those that do not have a lot of experience with mental health, i.e. any teachers, coaches, administrators, school nurses, family advocates, etc. School Psychologists and School Counselors don’t find this training particularly useful as this is basic information they received in their training.
The training is scheduled for October 18th and Feb. 21st, 2020. There can be a maximum of 30 participants and you must register in order to attend. Staff can access the Youth Mental Health First Aid registration at https://blpsymhfa2019.eventbrite.com. Contact Whitney at Cell: (541) 668-0760OR Office: (541) 322-7420 for more information.
