January 26

Report Card Info- Thank you for your time on Monday looking over the report card document. The fact that report cards are a consistent source of stress for our teachers is a testimony to their dedication and professionalism and their desire to get it right. Lora and I met to attempt to address some of the questions but did not make drastic changes. I’ve linked the revised document.  We will work on directions for ELD students. If a teacher should ask about ELD in the meantime, remember that not all sections must be completed and ELD students will get an ELD report.                                                                                           One of the common questions had to do with the reading stretch bands. Here is a screen shot from Julie with this explanation, “you can figure out where students are performing in this range by looking at the lexile level on the back of their Wonders leveled readers or looking at the Wonder’s Teacher’s Edition in order to figure out the lexile level of every book students are accessing each week.”

SIW Work Time- A couple of questions around SIW/ Teacher work time have come up recently. I talked with Janelle and here is what I learned. There are four SIW’s that should be set aside as ‘individual member work time for preparation and planning.’ I’m linking contract language. Time should be given to prepare for conferences and report cards in addition to these four. The team that determines your SIW calendar should determine when this happens.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Kindergarten Round Up- Ok, so not everything is as easy as it should be. April 11 is conferences (I of course knew that originally but wanted to see if anyone else noticed…wink, wink). April 18 is a kindergarten SIW, so half our kinder teachers will be occupied during SIW on that day. So… we now have two other choices- April 4- the first Wednesday we return from spring break, or April 25- which seems really late to me.  Please let me know your thoughts by the end of the day Monday so we can get this on the calendar. We are starting to get a lot of questions about kindergarten for next year. Thank you.

Neighborhood Impact- I still need one more kindergarten teacher for an in town parent night for Neighborhood impact on Thursday, February 8. Please let me know asap if you have a willing teacher. We pay! Thanks.

Evaluations- I believe people (students, staff, anyone) perform better when they know the expectations. We are all evaluated at the end of the year based on a rubric. Most of us probably look at the rubric a couple times a year- once when asked to complete a self-eval and once when we get our summative eval.  The evaluation rubrics are actually pretty good reminders of some of the things we should be doing. With that in mind, I will be linking a domain each week and I would encourage you to take a look and ask yourself how things are going. Sometimes it’s even a validation of the great work you have already been doing. This week is Domain 1.

Leadership Meeting-Leadership meeting will be held on Monday, February 5 at 3:15 in Board Room. The focus will be planning our next round of school team visits.

Science Adoption- Skip and his team are beginning work on a PD plan for our new science adoption. Nothing is set yet, but be on the lookout for information coming soon.

Posting/hiring- Interviews for the Exec. Director of H.S. and college Readiness will be held this Monday.

  • Exec. Director of HS & College/Career Readiness- Posting closed on January 12. Interviews on January 29.
  • Summit High School Principal- Posting closes January 26. Interviews on February 9.
  • High Desert Middle School Principal- Posting closes on February 2. Interviews on February 20.
  • Juniper Vice Principal- Currently the plan is to post this position. Dan and I are thinking about a timeline that will work best for Juniper. More info/details to come when we have them.

I think that is all. Enjoy your weekend. Forecast calls for 55 and partly sunny on Sunday! Hope you can get outside and soak it up.
