Welcoming New Staff- Here is an article on creating Moments. This is great food for thought as you consider ways to make on-boarding new teachers and staff members a positive and memorable experience. As you think about ways to welcome new staff members, consider how you might use your ICCL’s to help with this. One idea I heard was to purchase a few coffee gift cards. Give the cards to your ICCL(s) and have them invite a new staff member out to coffee to get to know them. There are plentiful other ideas to choose from, but I encourage you to try one new thing this year to welcome new staff.
Reminders- Below is a recap of information covered at our horizontal meeting on Monday. I’ve met with Shay and Christie Boen since our meeting to discuss this further. We believe these are the best steps moving forward, but if you would like to veer from this or have questions, please contact me so we can discuss. Thank you for all of your help on this.
- Inform media managers to wait until fall to do any OBOB promotions, introductions, team start-ups etc.
- Parent permission slips may be distributed in the fall. These must go out before any formal process takes place. If you and/or your media manager wants to do something before fall, contact me
- Meetings, competitions, etc. need to all be completed outside of class time.
- No assemblies for kids to watch
- No class time, library time, etc. for competitions.
- Must all be voluntary times when students can choose to be there, not be forced to choose to leave.
- Lunches, recesses, before or after school, voluntary is OK
2018-2019 Certified Work Calendar- The certified work calendar for 2018-2019 is complete. This is always a little confusing, so don’t hesitate to call if you have questions.
School Messenger- From Alandra: As of June 1, all schools will use School Messenger to send home emails and phone calls to families (goodbye, don’t let the door hit you on the way out SynerVoice). Office staff at our schools have trained on this. We also want to empower our principals to be able to use this new and, I would say, MUCH easier and more intuitive, tool in order to communicate directly with families as needs arise.
With that in mind, Deby Bryson and I will host two upcoming School Messenger trainings aimed exclusively at principals and APs. We will tailor the training to our principals’ needs and talk about examples of how the tool might be used.
- Tuesday, June 19: 2:30 – 4 p.m. in the Wall St. Lab
- Tuesday, August 7: 9 – 10:30 a.m. in the Wall St. Lab

Title I Paperwork- Please take a few minutes to complete this required Title I form and scan to JoAnne. You will also need to print off a copy for your records. I will also email you an attachment if that is easier. For question number 3, an “inexperienced teacher” is defined as “teachers with a preliminary license in the subject area they teach.” Thank you.
Safety Training Day- Our district’s annual safety training day will be on August 9, 2018. Scott Bojanowski is beginning to work on an agenda for that day. If you have any topics that you would like presented or discussed, please let Scott know in the coming few weeks.
That is all for this week. I will be out most of the afternoon. You can reach me on my cell phone or contact Jim, Lora, Skip or Jon if you need anything.
Don’t spend too much time working this weekend. It looks like it is going to be beautiful. Get outside and get your vitamin D. Hope you find the three days restful and relaxing.
