RHS Newsletter 9-3-21

Dear Students and Families,

YES!! It is happening! School starts this week, and we can’t wait!

Despite all of the challenges and uncertainty that COVID has provided for us, one thing remains true… school will open this week and our staff are thrilled to see and work with your kids. We have been hard at work planning welcome back activities to build connection and belonging, and getting excited about digging into meaningful curriculum and engaging learning!

They year ahead provides an opportunity for us to re-engage our students in a rich environment of social connections where they can make new friends, find support, and re-invigorate their journey of self-discovery and growth. It provides us with a chance to turn our “brains back on” in classrooms where we will challenge all of our students to think critically, push themselves beyond their “comfort zones”, and do more than they thought possible!

Can’t wait for it all to start,

Roger White

Principal

BASE CAMP (AKA Crew Camp) at RHS

This August Realms HS hosted Crew Camp, a two week experience for high school 9th graders (and a small handful of 10th graders) designed to help students get a “running start” on their high school career.

Students got oriented to academic classes and expectations, engaged in team building activities, service project, and outdoor adventure (rock climbing and rafting!!) It was AWESOME!

Check you a few photos!

Schedules!

Student schedules are now available on StudentVue/ParentVue

Student schedules have been built on forecasting surveys and based on student’s graduation requirements. Some LIMITED schedule changes are possible… however we will NOT be making scheduling changes to move friends together, or to request a different teacher for the same class. We WILL be happy to make adjustments for reasons like:

  • already took this class
  • would like to take this class online
  • looking to take higher level class
  • need a lighter schedule this trimester

If you have questions or would like to request a schedule change for one of the reasons above, please use THIS FORM to let us know. Please do not call the officewe will call you back if you request it on the form.

Additionally, there are some electives that we did not forecast for in the spring, so you may be scheduled for an elective course that you are not interested in. We want to know this as well! Below are the elective classes that are offered in the same trimester, and therefore might be switchable:

  • Trimester 1: Construction, Photojournalism, History of the Holocaust, Mindfulness, Film History, Music, Leadership, and Small Theater.
  • Trimester 2: Construction, Photojournalism, Strength and Conditioning, Mindfulness, Film History, Leadership, Science and Skepticism, and Music.
  • Trimester 3: Construction, Ceramics, Leadership, Construction, Psychology, Survival Skills (not an elective for 9th graders), Science and Skepticism, and Music.

Breakfast and Lunch Logistics During COVID

Breakfast will be served between 8:25AM and 8:40AM. Students will eat breakfast in our cafeteria at tables marked for 6′ distancing.

As with all of our local high schools, students are highly encouraged to eat lunch outdoors and are asked to maintain six feet distance while eating, whenever possible.  Outside lunch will continue except in the event of poor air quality or inclement weather such as rain, snow, or low temperatures.

When students need to eat indoors they will need to remain 6 feet distanced and unmasked eating times will be kept to 15 minutes.

10th – 12th graders may leave campus for lunch. 9th graders are required to remain on campus.
