ROGER’S VIDEO SUMMARY
PARENT ACTION ITEMS THIS WEEK!
- Read this letter – there is important information in here about the coming weeks and the hybrid plan at RHS. THEN, once you are clear on the details (call anytime with questions), please do the following:
- Complete the Bend LaPine Hybrid School Choice Survey (2 min)
- Complete the Bend LaPine Hybrid Transportation Needs/Request Form (2 min)
- Complete the Realms High School Youth Truth PARENT/GUARDIAN Survey (15 min)
All three of these are really important! The first two are critical to the District’s l=planning logistics and the Youth Truth Survey is critical to us as a faculty at Realms HS in improving our program!

REALMS HIGH SCHOOL HYBRID SCHEDULE
At Realms HS we will have a slightly different Hybrid Schedule than the comprehensive high schools which results in MORE instructional minutes in person and less instructional minutes on WebEx. The overall effect is more learning time and face to face support for students. After careful consideration we believe that this schedule will result in more effective instructional time without compromising safety.
THE BIG LIST OF FAQ’S REGARDING HYBRID!
- How many days a week will I go to school?
- Everyone goes to school (on campus at RHS) two days/week. The other three days you operate from home. A Cohort will be on campus on Mondays and Thursdays while B Cohort attends on campus on Tuesdays and Fridays.
- Which cohort am I in, and do I have the ability to pick the people in my cohort?
- Students are divided in two cohorts (last names beginning with A-K/last names beginning with L-Z) by our transportation department – District wide.
- In order to ensure that every RHS students can keep their schedule of classes in tact and keep our cohorts evenly balanced, we have made a limited number of strategic cohort switches in cohorts, but unfortunately we can NOT open up cohort choices and changes based on friends
- However, if you have a significant hardship related to the cohort you are in, you may email Jennifer or Roger and we can ATTEMPT to help (no guarantees though!). Please know that keeping cohorts small and balanced in order to ensure students safety takes top priority in any cohort switch decisions.
- When I’m at home during Hybrid Instruction, do I have class meetings that I have to attend and school work to complete?
- Classes no, homework, yes. On your “at home days” you are working on your asynchronous assignments and lessons posted on Canvas but will not have any WebEx classes.
- Teachers will assign follow up assignments and lessons to be completed at home prior to the next live class. Students can expect to have 1-2 hours of schoolwork per class to complete during the asynchronous days following an on campus day.
- What happens on Wednesdays?
- On Wednesdays, most students work asynchronously from home on their assignments. Additionally, RHS will offer:
- On site “Targeted Study Groups” by invitation to students who may need some added academic or social/emotional support.
- We will be publishing a schedule of drop in Office Hours during the morning so students can ask questions from home. Stay tuned for Targeted Study Group invitations AND the office hours schedule.
- On Wednesdays, most students work asynchronously from home on their assignments. Additionally, RHS will offer:
- If I’m in a “pod/bubble” with one of my classmates do I still have to socially distance with them while we’re at school?
- Yes. Our safety protocols for being on campus are for everyone, all the time.
- Can I drop my student off early, like I used to do?
- No. Due to State and District Safety Guidelines it is very important that you drop your child off as close to the beginning of the school day as possible.
- What if a student isn’t following the guidelines?
- If a student is not following any of our social distancing, masking guidelines, or other guidelines they will be reminded once and provided clear direction about the specific actions needed.
- After one reminder, students will be removed from the educational environment and provided with an alternative where they are not posing a safety risk to others
- What will happen if there is an exposure or suspected COVID-19 case at school?
- Our school district and local health authority will work closely with school personnel to manage these situations based on contact tracing information.
- The Ready Set Learn Booklet here describes many of the exact guidelines, rules and responses for students who present with symptoms and or various types of possible exposures.
- Will I be still be able to do school if I have to quarantine?
- Yes. During Hybrid, teachers will continue to post classroom materials, resources, and assignments on Canvas for you to follow along. Teachers will also have office hours on Wednesday to support you. We’ll work with you to make sure that you don’t fall behind while you are at home.
- We have to be ready to shift back to CDL in case of an exposure.
- Can students wear the plastic face shield in addition to masks?
- A cloth, paper, or disposable face mask (without valves) that covers the nose and the mouth is the requirement for all students and staff. Face shields are OK but only over masks. Masks are non-negotiable.
- Will there be handwashing requirements?
- All people on campus shall be advised and encouraged to frequently wash their hands or use hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizer dispensers are now all over campus hallways and in every classroom!
- How will you ensure social distancing?
- Based on the 35 square foot per person space requirement, our classrooms are rated to hold 18-20 occupants safely. However our average cohort class size is approximately 9 students per class, with a maximum class size of 14. This provides a welcome additional “cushion”.
- Divided and marked hallways streamline the flow of students to minimize close contact during passing periods
- Limited bathroom occupancy rules/system and passing periods that are offset from Skyline HS
- All tables and seating areas outside of classrooms marked with “Sit Here” stickers and signage
- Students eating lunch will be separated into 4 well ventilated eating zones and will unmask only when seated and for no more than 15 minutes.
- How will you handle lunch on campus?
- Students may eat outside at one of the outdoor eating areas (to be set up in the coming weeks) OR inside in one of four separate lunch zones, each capable of seating 15 socially distanced students and each located in the most well ventilated areas of our building
- 11th and 12th grade students may leave campus however we ask students NOT to ride other students’ cars
- Students may unmask while eating (maximum 15 minutes) and then must replace their mask
- What are the precautions and systems for students riding the bus to school?
- Here is a video produced by the Bend LaPine Transportation Department. More info can be found on their web page https://www.bend.k12.or.us/bus
