This and That:
Link From Coaches: Follow this link to the Friday update from our coaches. If you already read it on Friday, you are up to date.
Room Clean-up: Jamie sent out a message about boxes earlier this week and I almost immediately started getting panicked messages from several of you. No need to worry; but here’s what you need to know. Mike and Tony are hoping to do some painting this summer. Before they get started on painting and other beautifying projects, they need to complete their “summer cleaning.” Over the next several weeks, they will be working on stripping and waxing all of the classroom and office floors two at at a time. This means you might have a couple of days without access to your classroom. Mike will stay in touch with you and work with you so that you can get what you need from your classroom before they do your room. If you are able to do some tidying before they get to your room, great! If not, they will do their best to work around it.
Art Lesson from Karen: As you guys know, Karen has been creating some art videos that you can use with your students. Here is her new one on portraits and a google doc handout to go with this lesson.
Elevating the Voices of Children: I thought some of you might enjoy doing this optional activity with your students as a class Webex activity or as a writing prompt to share with the leaders of education in Oregon. Here is a link to the activity and a little more information below.
The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) is seeking the wisdom of students so that state leaders may learn from their experiences, imaginations, courage, and hopes to inform planning for the future of Oregon, the world’s nations and the planet. We believe that by listening to the voices of children and young people we can transform what we are learning – as we face the challenges of COVID-19 – into a new vision for the future.
Student Placement Timeline: Here is a link to the student placement timeline document I shared at our staff meeting last week.
Digital Norms: Here is a link from our coaches to digital norms resources.
Updates for Activities On Hold: Below are updates on what I know about the activities listed below. I will be removing all of the cancelled items for next week’s newsletter:
- Naglieri/ TAG testing – TBD
- Parent Survey – TBD
- Hiring – TBD
- QPS/IPS – TBD
Being Trauma Informed in a Virtual World: A great handout showing what it looks like to be trauma informed during virtual learning.
To Do:
Weekly Team Meeting Invite: Instead of needing to remember to invite Kelle and Frank each week to a team meeting, please choose at least one day and time each week that will be a recurring meeting time for your team. Please have one person create a recurring link in Webex that includes Kelle and Frank. I can work around any time except Wednesday afternoons. Kindergarten, Intervention, and SPED teams are set… you are already on my weekly schedule.
Flipgrid: Starting next week, we are going to add a Flipgrid prompt to Eagle News. This is another way for students to see each other and to share with the community. Please join in the fun and in getting it started. This is the same Flipgrid going out to all of our students, so this is a chance for you to say hello to Elk Meadow! All you need to do is click on this link from your computer https://flipgrid.com/80596303 OR download the App on a phone or iPad, and enter the code 80596303. You can view others videos and then click on the green circle to record to a short video and take a selfie.
Blooper Reel: Please send some of your video making bloopers to Jessica for a fun end-of-the-year blooper reel.
