Amy brought the learning to a student’s home (while keeping an appropriate distance, of course). Sometime, ask her about her funny story from her visit this past week…

This and That:

Link From Coaches: Follow this link to the Friday update from our coaches. If you already read it on Friday, you are up to date.

Parent Feedback about Placement: All of the forms we have received to this point are in your boxes for consideration as you place students in classes next year. We will continue to put them in your mailbox as we receive them.

Student Engagement Data: As the weather gets nicer and we edge closer to summer, I have some concerns that families may start to engage with school less and less. I am starting to track our participation data and will share it each week. There is no judgement attached to the data – it’s just information to inform our thinking and decisions. Below is the percentage of students “participating” at least two day per week or more. This data is NOT from last week, this is from the week before:

  • K= 80%
  • 1= 89%
  • 2= 82%
  • 3= 93%
  • 4= 92%
  • 5= 93%
  • Overall= 88%

Bridges Planning: (From the district coaches weekly newsletter). If you haven’t seen this latest Bridges resource, we recommend using it for future planning because it identifies crucial lessons for this spring. Bridges is also working on a plan for how to best support students with missed math content in the Fall. So, take that task off your plates for right now!

Returning Student Materials: After talking with a few of you, we are NOT going to be returning student materials at our next distribution day. I will share more information about an updated plan at our staff meeting on Wednesday.

Clever Login and Changing Users: Kayla made the following video to support staff, parents, and students with Clever login and changing users (thank you, Kayla!!). Melinda created some slides to support K-2 students and families as well (thank you, Melinda!). Together, these resources are very helpful in working through how to do this.

COVID Energy Savings: Here are ways we can be saving energy at school during COVID-19. Please take a moment to follow this link, read the information, and act on those items that apply to you.

Dreambox: If anyone would like to see what Dreambox is like on the students side, follow this link to play a few games in different Dreambox levels.

Art Resources from Karen:

District Calendar Art Contest: (From Alandra Johnson). This year, we are getting creative with the production of our annual Family Handbook and Calendar, which is mailed home to families before the start of each school year. For the 2020-21 calendar, we are inviting students to submit artwork and photographs to be featured. Alandra is sharing this opportunity district-wide, but we also would like to invite teachers to share this opportunity with students (elementary classroom teachers, art teachers, photography teachers or anyone interested!). The theme is #BLSproud. What makes you proud to be part of your school or your school district? Share a piece of artwork or a photograph that conveys that sentiment.
Deadline: May 25, 2020
Students can use this link to submit artwork.
