Elk Meadow third grader (Miller’s class), Tierra Blakely, showed teachers some love this week.

This and That:

Link From Coaches: Follow this link to the Friday update from our coaches. If you already read it on Friday, you are up to date.

Sheltering Instruction:  Here is a link with ideas for sheltering instruction during remote learning (same as the link from the coaches update).

Report Cards: Here are links to the report card directions and report card comments. From Gary to principals: I will let you know as soon as the revised report card is uploaded. As a reminder, all sections will be ‘NA’ by default except the following: reading, writing, language, speaking, listening and math. Julianne is working on a communication that we will want all of you to use to communicate with families about the end of year conversations with parents. I’ll get that to you as soon as it is complete.

Conversation Interpreters– Melinda will be working with you and our Spanish speaking families to arrange for interpreters for our June parent/teacher conversations.

Last Day of Instruction: Until you hear otherwise, please do not share with parents that the last day of instruction will be June 5. We want students and families to stay engaged as long as possible

Student Engagement Data: Below is the percentage of students “participating” at least two day per week or more. It’s exciting to see that our engagement data is actually trending up! Great job, everyone!!

Ideas To Keep Students Engaged: Also from our coaches this week, some ideas to keep students engaged during this last month.

Art Resources from Karen:

Ed. Foundation Art and Writing Contest: The Education Foundation announces an Art & Writing Contest for K-12 students in Bend-La Pine Schools!  This fun contest will allow our students to showcase their creativity in art and/or writing, as well as having an opportunity to win a gift card from the Education Foundation ranging in value from $25-$50 depending on grade level.  Two winners per category (art or writing) per grade level will be selected for a gift card prize. This contest is completely optional for students, but can be an assignment from a parent/guardian or teacher.  The contest is open May 1-25, 2020.  Information and instructions can be found on our website (www.engagedminds.org) or by emailing us at [email protected]

Ed. Foundation Drawing for Teachers: Every BLS K-12 educator can email us their name and the school where you teach to enter a drawing to win $100 in classroom credit funds from the Education Foundation!  We support you and your efforts in this intricate and evolving educational landscape facing each and every one of us.   Simply email us at [email protected] with your name/school and that’s it!  We will randomly draw two K-12 educator winners on May 29th!

To Do:

5th Grade Hat Supplies: Please consider donating some supplies for 5th grade “graduation” hats. Construction paper, paper scraps, pipe cleaners, yarn, or any other crafty items our parent helpers can use to create and decorate 93 crazy looking hats. PTO will be collecting the supplies this coming Thursday 5/14. Collection box is outside my door. Thanks for any donations you can provide.

Returning Student Materials: Please work with your team to sign-up for a date and time to return student materials. Each team will need to work with Frank on the details of your plan to ensure that we are meeting physical distancing requirements.

Blooper Reel: Please send some of your video making bloopers to Jessica for a fun end-of-the-year blooper reel.
