This and That:

Staffing Updates: A few staffing updates –

  • Emily McLarty will remain in fourth grade and will be moving to A-wing.
  • April’s job is posted, and we are on the search to try and fill her shoes.
  • Jill Gaines, of MSW intern this year, was hired as a Student Success Coordinator at Miller Elementary! Congrats Jill!!
  • We are interviewing for one kindergarten position on Tuesday.
  • Vanessa is starting her teaching program on 6/1 (Yay for Vanessa!!), so Sunny Schumaker (previously worked at EME as an EA until her oldest was born) will be taking her place on Mondays-Thursdays through the end of the school year (Vanessa will be back on Fridays).

Employee Assistance Program (From Human Resources): Human resources would like to remind everyone that ALL STAFF has access to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to help navigate life stressors and/or manage life-changing events.

Sub Plans (From Human Resources): We have been hearing from our roving subs that sometimes sub plans are not always complete or very detailed. As you can imagine this can cause some issues especially for any dysregulated students who need structure and consistency. **From Kelle – thank you for supporting your students and substitutes by leaving detailed lesson plans. That is absolutely my expectation, whenever possible.

Spirit Week(s): To celebrate the end of the year, we will be having spirit weeks starting on June 7th (handouts will be in your boxes on Tuesday). Please help your students participate in as much of the fun as works for your class. June 9th is Kickball. Here is a link to sign-up to reserve the kickball field and to request support from Jess/ Frank as needed.

Summer School in D-Wing: As you all know, one of the Jump Start locations will be at Elk Meadow this summer. At this time, we know that all of the D-wing will be used. Soon, I hope to know which other parts of the school will be used so that you all will be able to plan your classroom set-up around it.

Technology Resources for Elementary Brenna sent an email last week with some helpful end-of-the-year resources:

  • Synergy Report Card Resources and Guides
  • End of the Year iPad Tasks slideshow
    • Remember, this is optional. There is no requirement to back up and save work on student iPads.
    • Please encourage all students to update their iPad software
  • Apple Creativity for Kids
    • Explore creative activities using built-in features of the iPad. Designed for children ages 4-8+ and 8-12+, available in multiple languages.
    • These activities can be used in the classroom or shared with families for summer ideas.

Butcher Paper Carts: For years, Elk Meadow has had four carts of butcher paper and around 10 extra rolls of orange, brown, and pink paper in the workroom that rarely got used. You may have noticed that we are down to three carts, and there has been an abundance of orange, brown, and pink on the carts. That is because we have been working on using up the abundance of paper in the workroom and getting down to two carts. The vision is to have two fully stocked carts with a variety of colors that live at the end of each hallway (one in the A/B hallway and one in the C/D hallway). When there is more than one roll of a color on a cart, please use the smaller roll first to use it up and replace it with a different color. Please feel free to use some of the overstocked paper as tarps for painting or other creative uses.

Jump Start Confirmations: We will be working to confirm Jump Start invites on Tuesday. It would be very helpful if some classroom teachers can help connect with some of your families. April will reach out on Tuesday to see if you can reach out. If not, we will take care of it from the office.
