Love these “Vowel Towns” that our first grade team has been creating as part of an integrated reading unit. SO FUN! These three are from Kari, Kellie, and Amy’s classes.

This and That:

Staffing Updates: A few staffing updates –

  • Please help me welcome Josh Hayden to our fifth-grade team! Josh has taught at Buckingham for 11 years and was instrumental in starting their STEM focus. I feel very fortunate to have Josh joining our Elk Meadow team!
  • Our secretary position closes on Monday, June 7th and we will likely interview the following week. Stay tuned.

Spirit Week(s): Spirit week starts Monday, June 7th. Please do what you can to promote and engage in these fun and simple end-of-the-year activities. Here is a link for kickball sign-ups to reserve the kickball field and to request support from Jess/ Frank as needed.

Innovative Teaching and Learning Conference (from TLC):

Greetings Teachers,

Our teaching and learning staff is once again excited to be planning the Innovative Teaching and Learning Conference for this August. The conference will be held Wednesday, August 25 and Thursday, August 26th, at Pacific Crest Middle School. Like other years ITLC will be an energizing way to start the new school year!

In light of many aspects of our current situation, ranging from unknowns about gathering size, vaccine distribution, and even interest – we are going to scale down and focus this year’s conference on several large topics with the hope of giving those who participate the chance to dive deeper into the areas of equity, grading practices, and social-emotional wellness.

Each day will include a morning keynote followed by afternoon breakouts around these topics. You can choose to attend as much as you’d like. Mary Ehrenworth will be our featured presenter for Wednesday the 25th and the team from Creative Leadership Solutions will be leading us in work surrounding Equitable Grading Practices on Thursday, August 26th.

Registration is available now in Performance Matters(after logging in, you should see it in “Recommended Training,” click there, then select the “sections” tab to register separately for each day).

Jump Start Confirmations: We are getting close to filling our Jump Start seats. Thank you for all of your help communicating with your families.

Furniture & Supply Needs: As we come to the end of the year, I would like to remind everyone, if you have furniture or supply needs, please let me know – I will do my very best to meet your needs. DO NOT TAKE FURNITURE OR SUPPLIES FROM OTHER ROOMS (even if they are moving out) without my or Mike’s approval. The new staff to our building do not deserve to come into a stripped-down room. Thank you.

COVID/ Safety Related Information:

Questions/Concerns about COVID-19 related matters?: Please follow this flowchart. If in doubt about what to do, you can always check with Frank or Kelle. Frank is our Safety Team Lead, and Ann Hollenberg is our School Nurse. You can find our School Safety Checklist here. And here is a link to our COVID anonymous safety concerns form.
