This and That:
Wednesday Specialist/ Duty Schedule: Because Wednesday, September 4th, is a full day and not an early release schedule, we will be treating Wednesday like a Tuesday. Please follow the specialist and duty schedules that correspond with Tuesdays (NOT Wednesdays) during this first week of school. The rest of the days will be back to “normal.”
Dot Day: International Dot Day is all about celebrating creativity… what a perfect match for Elk Meadow! We will celebrate with an assembly on the morning of Friday, September 13th. Teams and individual classrooms are encouraged to follow-up with other Dot Day activities. Here is a link to the official Dot Day Educator’s Handbook. Additionally, there are MANY resources and ideas all over the internet.
Math Assessments: Our missing bridges assessments have been found and delivered. Hopefully everyone should have what they need. Please see Debbi if you are still missing something.
Cell Phone (and all “smart” devices): Please be sure to communicate with your families during Scoop on Schools about our cell phone/ smart device policy (at all grade levels).
Ed. Foundation Back to School Grants: The Ed. Foundation is starting something new this fall with the introduction of Back to School Classroom Grants. The following funding priorities are right up Elk Meadow’s ally:
- Support for art, music and wellness project/program/tool requests
- Support for STEM/STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) project/program/tool requests
- Support for creative and innovative curricula and tools to increase educational opportunities for Bend-La Pine and Sunriver public school students that
- Have a strong connection to BLS District curriculum goals
Standard Classroom: As I have previously shared, we are working towards developing a “standard classroom” so that staff can rely on having specific items in their classrooms. This standard will be forever evolving and include more items as we can afford them (we have been doing a little each year and plan to keep doing so). Please let me know via email ASAP if you do not have any of the items below (and would like them):
- Wooden Cubbies: K-5
- Teacher Desk: K-5
- Easel: K-5
- Filing Cabinet: K-5
- Document Camera: K-5
- Kidney Table: K-3
- Tables (instead of individual desks): K-2
- Large Rug: K-1
- Apple TV: 3-5
To Do:
Summer Construction Projects: Please be sure to let me or Mike know if you notice anything from the summer work that isn’t working, wasn’t completed, or got broken.
SIW Start Time Vote: If you haven’t already, please vote for your favorite SIW meeting time by the end of the day on Wednesday 9/4.
Class Lists: For a variety of reasons (new students, new students with high needs, parent feedback, etc…) Class lists continue to have a few tweaks to them. Please be sure to check your class list first thing on Wednesday morning. If you see a name in pink, this signifies a student has been added to your class, but there also might be some students missing. If there are any changes made after class lists are printed on Wednesday morning, we will contact you directly.
Leadership Teams and Committees: Certified staff… Please be sure to sign up for ONE leadership team and AT LEAST one committee. Please work as a team to determine leadership teams and sign up for any committee(s) that “speak” to you most. Send me an email with your choices so I can update the document. Classified staff… we would love to have your voice represented on our leadership teams and committees, but I know that meetings often conflict with your hours and duties. Please come talk with me if you would like to join a specific team or committee and this is a barrier for you. Here’s a link to the document.
Master Schedule Updates: Please be sure to update the Master Schedule and Wednesday Master Schedule with your intended schedule and keep it up to date throughout the year. The Master Schedule link is at the top of the Eagle Essentials Website and the 18-19 Standards of Practice can be found in the Documents Folder (also on the top of the website) to help guide you (I haven’t received a 19-20 version, but I’m hearing there haven’t been any changes.)
