This and That:
2/5 SIW Plan: Certified staff: please be sure that you have registered for a district SIW. Educational assistants who are still on the clock during the SlW time: please be sure that you have registered for a district SIW. See last week’s newsletter for link and more directions to register (if needed). Any EA’s who would like to attend one of these trainings beyond your hours, I am happy to time sheet you for your time.
2/4 Staff Meeting: The bulk of our staff meeting this week will be to participate in some equity training with Chris Boyd (previous principal at Pacific Crest Middle School, current planning principal for new High School, and Equity leader for our district). I think you will all enjoy listening and learning with Chris. Again, any EA’s who would like to attend beyond your hours, I am happy to timesheet.
Jess Out: Jessica and Noll Kennedy (Dean at High Desert Middle School) will be doing a job switch on Monday and Tuesday. Please help Noll feel welcome as he learns about what life is like in an elementary school.
Kindergarten Support: With the revolving door for enrollment, our kindergarten classes have creeped up to 25 students… yep, 25 KINDERGARTENERS!!!! Earlier this week, we were approved to hire an additional temporary three hour EA position to support the K classes. I believe the job is currently posted. If you know someone (maybe a parent) who might be great for the position, please encourage them to apply. I anticipate that we MIGHT have an open EA position next year and this could be a good foot-in-the-door for someone.

Relationship, Responsibility and Regulation Quotes:
“Trauma doesn’t care what race we are, what religion we practice, where we live, what our family make up is, what our sexual orientation or identity is, or what our role in society is. Trauma is nondiscriminatory. It affects us all equally. Where we do tend to see discrimination is in our systems’ responses to trauma–and, increasingly, assumptions play a key role in influencing those responses. We need to be mindful of how our assumptions can become barriers for students who are desperately in need of help.“
