Principal’s Hello

Hello, Families!

This was a great week in the nest! We celebrated our classified employees who help immensely to make this big and messy and fun thing called middle school happen. We hosted a culture walk with the University of Washington, district employees, and other principals. And we had some more powerful conversations as grade-level teams about students who need a little extra support.

Thank you to those intrepid parents who braved the roads this morning to join me at our second Principal’s Coffee. I enjoy these discussions immensely, and I always learn something. From our first Principal’s Coffee, I got the idea (from y’all) to send the 9th grade teachers at Summit a survey about academic readiness. (Stay tuned for results!)

From this morning’s talk, I learned that parents want some engaging and informative presentations/speakers/content about how to do this crazy, messy, but, ultimately, meaningful thing called middle school parenting. I will marinate on that feedback and see what we might be able to put together for you soon.

As always, thank you for your partnership, and have a fantastic weekend!

Grading Website

Check out the district’s new website on grading in Bend-La Pine Schools:

https://www.bend.k12.or.us/district/academics/middle-school-instruction/grading-practices

Here you will learn about the pillars of grading, see our timeline, and find answers to frequently asked questions. As always, reach out to your student’s teachers if you have specific questions about grading in a particular class.

High School Forecasting

Forecasting (choosing classes) for 9th grade is happening next week for students attending Summit High School and Bend Senior High School. Counselors from each school will be here at Pacific Crest on Tuesday, March 14th to begin the two-day process. If your student is attending Summit High School, please review one of the below flyers. Students attending any other high school will be contacted directly by the high school to begin the forecasting process. All 8th grade students have been prepped and are excited about this exciting transition!
