October 4, 2024

Dear Golden Eagle Families,

What beautiful fall weather we’re having! So many students are going outside for recess — it’s awesome!

Next week in Advisory, we begin our fall spirit competition, which consists of classroom door decorating and school spirit wear. (Do you know our school colors?)

Remember that students are allowed to wear costumes to school for the dance on Friday, October 25. Please ensure the costume follows our guidelines and that faces are not covered.

Finally, please see the new policy about The Grove. This policy was The Grove’s last resort. After several years of disruptive behavior from students, they really have no choice.

Hopefully with improved behavior students will be allowed to go back to The Grove. We see similar behavior at the high school football games from the middle school students, which is why the athletic directors created the parent/guardian rule.

I know losing the convenience and freedom of unsupervised time for our kids can be hard, but it is the price we must pay for the good of the community.

Thanks for understanding.

Sean

New Grove Policy – EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY

Unfortunately, due to some students’ misbehavior and disregard of the rules at The Grove venue, students will not be allowed on the premises between:

12:15-1:30 PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays.

11:15-12:30 PM and 2:30-4:00 PM Wednesdays.

If a student stays on the premises once they are asked to leave, they may be trespassed.

Thank you for understanding. Hopefully, this can be lifted in the future.

Upcoming Lockdown Drill

On Tuesday, October 8th we will be running our fall lockdown drill at PCMS. All the drills we do are not only required by Oregon law, but they prepare staff, students and our community on how to respond in the event of an emergency. We take these drills seriously, and we expect our students to take them seriously as well. There is no opt-out option for this drill. 100% of our students and staff will be participating in the drill on October 8th.

Next week students and staff will get a refresher lesson on protocols regarding a lockdown by watching a Standard Response Protocol video in Advisory. During our drill, Bend Police Department will be on site to support our efforts.

You can find more information about Standard Response Protocol (SRP) in the following guides.

Daily Student Item Deliveries

Recently, we have seen an influx of deliveries of items and lunches for students, which have, in turn, overwhelmed our front office staff. To alleviate this constant issue:

  • Ask your student to be prepared with everything they need for the day.
  • Students are responsible to pick up delivered items from the drop-off cart near the attendance office during passing period.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Golden Eagle Sports Highlights

All three Eighth Grade Volleyball teams played their hearts out last night. This was our second match against Pilot Butte, with one of our teams needing redemption and we got it! All 3 of our teams won. The last match was a nail biter, but our girls stayed focused and determined. it was so exciting to watch our teams come together and succeed at what they’ve practiced all season.

Our 7th Grade Volleyball had a three-game sweep and all three teams beat Pilot Butte. All teams played with heart, hustled, cheered each other on and worked so hard on all things they have been working on at practice.

On Tuesday, our Cross Country runners had a meet at Cascade Middle School against Cascade and High Desert Middle School. Our runners placed first in 7th grade boys and 8th grade boys and girls. They also placed second in 6th grade boys and girls and 7th grade girls. We had overall individual race winners of 7th and 8th grade boys, and individual second place winners in 7th and 8th grade boys and girls.

On Wednesday evening, the 7th Grade PCMS Football team kicked off their season with Cascade.  PCMS took an early 8-0 lead, and went into halftime tied 8-8.  In the second half, PCMS began to take control of the game, and extended the lead to 20-8.  Things got close when Cascade made it 20-14 late in the 4th quarter before PCMS came up with a sack to end the game.  Next week, PCMS is at Pilot Butte on Wednesday at 5pm.
