Love Food Not Waste
The Love Food Not Waste campaign has been working great so far fro Pine Ridge and Bear Creek. Students completed a food waste audit and then learned more about what they created and had an education campaign about why we should reduce food waste. I am hoping all elementary schools can run at least the education campaign and put up signage int he cafeteria. Please talk to your administrator to get them to help you roll out an education campaign in all classrooms. The goal is to have all elementary classes view the presentations and video that is embedded in the slide shows. The video is linked if that is all there is time for.

Microplastic Maddness
BLS will have access to the 60 minute documentary MICROPLASTIC MADDNESS again this year. I am hoping we have access on April 3 and will be able to watch it until April 18th. On April 19th, I will assist in working with Nutrition Services to not use any plastic in service that day and to to not serve juice boxes. A great activity for the teams is to collect the plastic wrappers and straws from the juice boxes from one lunch day. Post-screening, kids will be excited to try to influence the district to get rid of these and some pictures and data would be helpful. Interested in screening for your team, class grade level or school? Please fill out the QUICK form so that I can collect general numbers and use.
The following links may be accessed from March 15, 2022 (7 am ET) through April 23, 2022 (midnight PT).

HIGH SCHOOL/MIDDLE SCHOOL SURVEYS – Meatless Monday
On April 21st, BLS is hosting the first Meatless day EVER!! This is super exciting and the work of some passionate Summit High Students and the Green Leadership Coalition. I need your help to get green team members to survey students at lunch. I will be working with Nutrition Services to design a quick google form survey. I will send to you all prior to the event. Please recruit students to collect feedback about the event.
Walk and Roll to School Day – May 11th
Walk and roll school day is coming. We really want to collect good data about how many students walk and roll to school and I need your help. There are loads of different ways to collect information. See the link below for information from Commute Options. One other way that might be easier is to collect via the way we used to lunch counts. Here is one for the Miller teachers. Does your school staff want to try using a form like this? If so please get me a class list and I will build you a form. It is best to get two days of data.
Check out additional details here from Commute Options with some marketing material.
