Sources of Strength for Secondary

What is Sources of Strength?

Sources of Strength is a strength-based, comprehensive wellness program that focuses on suicide prevention but impacts other issues such as substance abuse and violence. The program is based on a relational connections model that uses teams of Peer Leaders mentored by Adult Advisors to change peer social norms about help seeking and encourages students to individually assess and develop strengths in their life.

Our goal in Bend-La Pine Schools is to integrate Sources of Strength into our middle and high schools as a part of our Adi’s Act comprehensive district student suicide prevention plan, with support from our Healthy Schools initiative and public health strategists. There will be funding opportunities available for a number of sections for middle and high schools who opt in next year for class programming as a part of our Forward Project grant.

For those who would like to be early adopters or simply find out more about Sources, get ideas on how to implement as a club (or implement into an existing framework), join Lisa Brown, Youth Engagement Specialist at DCBH, for the following opportunity:

OSCA Conference

The OSCA Conference is coming up in November. If you are interested in attending, check with your principal to use school site professional development funds. If your aren’t able to access those funds, please contact Jennifer to see if she is able to help you attend.

This is a great opportunity to connect with counselors from around the state and continue our advocacy for our profession!

Synergy Documentation: Student Conference is updated!

If your name is still not listed in the drop down, please contact Rachel Mavis or Jess to get that fixed, but we should be good to go! Let’s begin entering Student Contacts in our system next week. We will pull some data in a month, to see how we are doing!
