June 3

Over the next two weeks we will be celebrating the 5th grade class and graduating seniors with special, “walks” on the South Playground (see dates/time below). On the day of the event please take your class to the south playground in time for the walk, find a place by the fence, and when the students walk by (the Seniors will walk by on the outside of the fence, 5th grade will walk the Running Club path) cheer them on. We had similar walks last year and it was a fun way for the whole school to celebrate these groups.

  • MVHS Seniors, June 8th  @ 8:45
  • 5th Grade, June 16th @ 10:00

5th Celebration “walk” on the Running Club loop, June 2021

Please do not enter through the fence gates when you arrive in the morning. Gordon secures the gates each night and we need to make sure they are locked for the start of the student day. These gates are unlocked at the end of the day, so feel free to leave through them. Thank you!

From Julie Walker: All K-5 teachers are required to take “Reimagining Foundational Skills” before the 22-23 school year begins as day 189.  Day 189 is a district directed professional development day. Please remember to sign up in Performance Matters (video showing how) so we can plan for you.

Summer School Staff still needed:   With the bulk of the positions filled, Bend-La Pine Schools are still seeking EA support across all levels (Jump Start, Spark, Base Camp and SPED/ESY).  In addition, we would like to add a few more teachers to the middle school Spark program, specifically at HDMS.  To apply, find “Careers in BLP Schools” and under “Internal Applicants” you can find open positions for summer employment.  The support for students is rewarding and stipends are substantial!  For more information, please contact Kevin Milner.

Kids Inc Reminder:  If you are interested in signing up for Kids inc please do by June 7th on the BPRD site AND to also complete the internal survey. Bend Park and Rec needs to know who our staff members are so they can try to accommodate them.

Thank you for not scheduling any conferences until all sibling conferences have been coordinated Monday after school. Sibling lists and conference scheduling forms will be in mailboxes Monday.

A quick reminder that in the event a child ever needs to go home during the school day (illness, injury, etc) Amber or Miriam will make this phone call. With potential accident reports, health logs, and Oregon student attendance laws to follow, this streamlined communication through the Main Office is imperative.

In the next couple of weeks we will receive information about our staffing allocation for next year. Once we have these details, we will start working on our staffing plan. If you are interested in teaching a different grade level next school year please let me know.

Happenings next week at Lava Ridge:

  • Monday: Sibling conference scheduling at 2:30 in the Media Center
  • Tuesday: Staff Meeting at 2:30 in the Media Center
  • Wednesday:  SIW-Teacher Prep
  • Thursday:  PTO Meeting at 2:30 in the Media Center
