October 7

Conferences- Please let me know if you are planning on having conferences on the Friday of conference week. No need to tell me if you are only doing Wednesday and Thursday. Also, please be sure to get interpreter requests to Jody McBride by next Wednesday.

Clowns- No, I’m not talking about the upcoming election. I’m talking about these. If you’ve been under a rock and haven’t heard about the recent creepy clown sightings across the US, including Central Oregon, here is a tidbit from Julianne:

With Halloween right around the corner and ‘clown sightings’ on the rise in the West, I thought it would be a good time to remind you that we have policy in place that prohibits wearing clothing that is disruptive to the learning environment, that prevents identification (hoods, masks, etc.) or poses a threat to the well-being and safety of students or others.

Details here.

As always, please advise people that if they (or you) see something suspicious, please contact your local police.

Good News Club- Good News Clubs have begun in Central Oregon, and with them, lots of questions. Rather than try to answer all of them, here are a few guidelines:

  • These are allowed
  • Elementary schools may excuse students for ‘religious instruction’ for up to two hours/ week.
  • Parent permission is required
  • Good News Club trailers must be parked off school property
  • Call me if you have further questions

SLGG’s- We are once again doing slggs this year. We now have two forms. Teachers can use the same form as last year. You can get that here. We know that some schools are not doing the cbm option for math so that part of the form doesn’t work. We are NOT doing SBAC for slggs this year. If teachers want to do their own goal, here is another form that is pretty simple and clear. Just download it and save it. The teacher can type in all of the information. SLGG’s are due at the end of October. If you need a little more time or if you have any questions, contact Jon L. or me and we can try to  help.

PD Feedback-Early next week you will be sent a link for completing a short survey (10 questions or less) regarding this past Monday’s Leadership time.  Jay, Jim and I are interested in your feedback in order to make our time together as valuable as possible.  We value your thinking and thank you in advance for your input!

Walk/Bike to School-Here is a link to a KTVZ Walk/Bike to school day story featuring our own Dan Wolnick.

Gratitude- As we focus on a theme of gratitude throughout our district this year, here is an inspiring video that Andy Slavin shared yesterday. Powerful.

That is all for today. I know there is probably more, but Brooke told me last week’s notes were WAY too long and so I am trying to make up for that. Thank you for all you do. Thanks for inspiring me to come to work every day. You are appreciated more than you know. Have a great weekend.
