2.3.2019

I didn’t have a great photo this week to share, so I thought I’d share this great shot of Emily and three of her students from the first day of school. LOVE that suit!!

This and That:

PBIS/ Welcome to KINDNESS MONTH!!!:  Here is a link to a video to share. Please also refer to the email Frank sent out about some all school activities we will be doing, as well as some optional activities!

Core Effectiveness: Grade level core effectiveness meetings (aka: 100% meetings) will be happening this week. As you all know, core effectiveness snuck up on me this time and I want to apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you. Additionally, I want to say THANK YOU for all of your kindness and grace last week when I came around and spoke with you about it. There wasn’t even ONE impatient look or frustrated word… just kindness and understanding for my flub. For your information, here is the schedule for working with Lindsley (each team will have an additional two hours immediately following this time to act on ideas developed with Lindsley and/or to dig into the data on another subject area):

  • Monday: 12:00-2:00   Kindergarten
  • Tuesday: 8:00-10:00   1st grade 11:30-1:30   4th grade
  • Wednesday: 10:00-12:00  5th grade
  • Thursday: 8:30-10:30  3rd grade

Art Inspiration: If you’re looking for a new way to help students keep their paint brushes clean, try a dollar store dog bowl. Put water in one side and a sponge in the other. They rinse in the water and then wipe on the sponge. Bonus, the bowls won’t tip over and spill.

Safety Drill Reminders:

  • Drills apply to everyone in the building (not just classroom teachers)
  • Train students to stop talking as soon as they hear the intercom (and the whole time) as this may be the way that you are informed of an actual emergency and what to do.
  • Treat drills like the real deal as we are practicing for if an emergency actually happens.

SIW This Week:  This week, we will be learning about some apps that can be used to support our students’ from some of our very talented Elk Meadow staff. Here is link to a video from another elementary school in Oregon and their efforts around improving attendance in their building.  It’s super cute and worth the watch.
