This and That:
Staffing: A couple more components of our staffing plan are starting to come together and I will be able to share more details this week. Additionally, I will be meeting with Gary and other principals this week to determine who might be transferred to Elk Meadow from another school. Change can be really hard for some folks, so I am grateful for the professionalism and confidentiality that most of you have shown during the past few weeks.
Art Inspiration: Dried up Sharpies? No problem! Place the tips in a plastic cup with a small amount of rubbing alcohol until a bit of ink comes out. Replace the caps and let sit for at least 15 minutes before using.
What Happens to Student Behavior When Schools Prioritize Art: A short read
PBIS: Collaborative Problem Solving: This week challenge yourself to identify ONE student’s lagging skills (individually or with a team).
- What are some ways we can help teach those skills?
- What support do you need to teach those skills?
Fluency Instruction: I HIGHLY recommend this short read about how to teach reading fluency by Tim Shanahan.
To Do:
Conference Schedules: Please give a copy of your conference schedule to April ASAP.
Secure Vestibule: The doors between the lobby and hallways will be closed and locked beginning on Monday. This means that once kids are at a school, they should not enter the “unsecured” lobby area again until they leave for the day. Please be sure to cover the following with your students on Monday morning:
- Remind students to only use the middle hallway or “gym hallway” to get from one side of the building to the other in order to not enter the lobby area.
- Students will no longer enter the lobby when they come to the office. Instead, they will enter the office through the side doors to the office near A and C wings and approach April’s desk for help. We will be streamlining this procedure more in the near future… stay tuned.
- The staff room door will need to be closed during lunch time due to the number of students that will be walking through the office at that time.
