1.5.2020:

Elk Meadow rejuvenates with family and holiday fun!

This and That:

1/8 SIW Plan: Individual time!

Safety Drills: For the remainder of the year, we will only be sharing the day of the week in which a drill will be occurring (not the time of day). In order to learn the most from drills, they need to be as authentic as possible. We still share the day of week so that staff will at least be clear that a drill is truly a drill and not a real event. Please be sure the let the office know ASAP if there are timing considerations we should take into consideration (a guest speaker, state testing, etc…) on scheduled drill days.

2019 Education Research Highlights: Does doodling boost learning? Do attendance awards work? Do boys and girls process math the same way? Here’s a look at the big questions that researchers tackled this year. A short and good read.

To Do:

Get back in the Elk Meadow groove.

Elk Meadow Check-up: Because we had so much newness and uncertainty on our plates at the beginning of the school year, I didn’t send out the usual “back-to-school survey.” With some of that newness behind us now, I’d like to get your feedback. Please complete the linked short survey in the next week. Thank you!

PBIS Rules Matrix Review: Coming back from a long break is the right time to review expectations with students. They have been out of routine and many may not remember what is expected. Teaching expectations provides reassuring predictability and should result in a reduction of misbehavior. Reviewing expectations is also an opportunity to reset routines that might have dropped off a little prior to break or could provide an opportunity to start a new routine altogether. Please plan to go over the contents of our common area rules matrix AND general recess rules Monday, and to review the rules periodically as we work to reestablish routines this week. We are structuring the review this way say that you have some flexibility with timing of delivery. Both matrixes are available on the Eagle Essentials website under the documents tab and inside the PBIS folder.

There are various ways to go about teaching the matrix. Here is a link to a slide show that breaks the matrix down into 3 logical chunks. One way to approach the information might be to cover a few slides in the morning, a few prior to lunch recess, and a few prior to the end of the day. The slideshow has a table of contents to help with this approach. You might also choose to have students make posters or plan to teach to buddies or each other.

Eagle Spirit Assembly: Eagle Spirit Assembly will be Friday, January 10th at 12:30. Please enter two student names for grade level character trait recognition (generosity) in google doc by end of Wednesday,
