This and That:
Link From Coaches: Follow this link to the Friday update from our coaches. If you already read it on Friday, you are up to date. A couple items of note:
- Lexia and Dreambox will both be available throughout the summer!
- I love this idea they share for taking a little time to reflect and learn:
“As you close out the school year think about what you have learned in the last couple of months. Take a moment to reflect and take several deep breaths!! What are some of the things you have learned that you will take with you as we move into next year? Take a minute to write yourself a note dated August so you can open it and remember the things you want to implement.”
Student Engagement Data: Overall, participation held steady the week of 5/18-5/22! We are still holding pretty steady! With all of the distance learning fatigue (students, families AND teachers), it’s incredible that we are still hovering around 90% participation. Thank you for all you are doing to make this possible!

T-Shirts: I hope you all have found your new Elk Meadow t-shirt in your room, office, or mailbox. Our new design was created by 5th grade student, Heidi Marx, in Olivia’s class.
Art With Elise: Here is another fun video from Elise with some ideas about yarn and stick sculptures.
A Good Read: It would not surprise me if we find ourselves doing distance learning again at some point next year and as we’ve learned, the stronger the virutal classroom culture, the more likely students are to engage in learning. This short article has some good ideas as you start to plan for next year. Fostering a Strong Community in a Virtual Classroom – “The shift to working online requires teachers to think a little differently about how to build the culture they want with their students.”
To Do:
Evaluation: Thank you to certified staff who are on formal evaluation this year who have returned their self evaluation. If you haven’t already done that, please make it a priority to have it submitted no later than Monday. I am working on completing about 3-4 evaluations each day (I have 22 to do) and will contact you to “meet” when I have completed your evaluation. All evaluations and meetings will be complete by June 12.
Library Books: Please make sure to let your families know we need library books returned before summer. There is a cart for returning materials at the grab and go lunch time each day (10:30-12:00). It would also be helpful if teams had a spot available for returning materials during student materials pick-up over the next couple of weeks.
Blooper Reel: Please send some of your video making bloopers to Jessica for a fun end-of-the-year blooper reel.
