It’s the first day of kindergarten for these kiddos who are on a search for elephant prints in the building!

This and That:

SIW Schedule: Here is a link to the SIW schedule for the year. This week is “school discretion,” so this week, TEAMS will have time to work on whatever they most need. One suggestion if you haven’t done so already, it would be a good idea for each team to review the math and literacy scope and sequence and priority standards for the year.

ICCL: I look forward to working with the following ROCKSTARS this year as part of our ICCL team. I was hoping to pull together this week, but it’s not going to work out. I will be in touch later this week regarding our first meeting date.

  • K: Kristin Jone
  • 1: Kellie Perry
  • 2: Tori Eisenbeis
  • 3: Heather Korman
  • 4: Nicole Sieh
  • 5: Olivia Variel

Leadership Teams & Committees: I need to punt this one more week.

Latino Liaisons: The district is currently trying to fill two liaison openings. Until this happens, Elk Meadow will have the AMAZING Liz Vargas as our Liaison. Last year, we started talking about ways to utilize our liaisons and ways to not utilize our liaisons. To help, this guide has been created.

FERPA: This is just a friendly reminder regarding FERPA guidelines. FERPA is the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. This means that we should not be emailing personal student information directly to others. When it’s needed to reference a student in an email with personal information, emails may only use one qualifier when describing the student. For example, Last name only or their school ID only. When using a student’s last name and teacher name, that is too much information. If you want to share student records or documents with people, using google docs or BLS Send is the best way to assure that the guidelines are followed.

Teaching and Learning:

TLC Update:  Here is a link to this week’s TLC Update. Please be sure to check out the scope and sequences for math and literacy embedded in the Standards of Practice documents (look in the Curriculum and Materials section of each of these documents). Additionally, there are some supportive technology resources to check out this week as well.

Dreambox/ Lexia: Please do what you can to have all students in grades 1-5 started on Dreambox and Lexia by the end of this week.

Restorative Circles: Want to go more in-depth with understanding the “circles” we have been using and how they can also be used for restorative practices with students as well? Consider joining the community of practice, brought to you by the HDESD and the Culture of Care coaches. The commitment is a 1.5-hour training/month, in which you become part of a community of learners around restorative practices. You will receive some amazing training, resources and connect with people who are also doing restorative work in schools in our community. There is an optional 1.0 college credit and it would be a great way to fulfill days 189 & 190 for those of you who are still looking for ways to do that. Here is some information about the work and information on how to sign up. The first class starts on 10/11. PS… I plan on taking this class so let me know if you sign-up, too!

COVID/ Safety Related Information:

Questions/Concerns about COVID-19 related matters?: Please follow this flowchart. If in doubt about what to do, you can always check with Frank or Kelle. Frank is our Safety Team Lead, and Ann Hollenberg is our School Nurse. Here is a link to our COVID anonymous safety concerns form.

Reminder about masks: Now that we have been in school for a few days and have seen what kids are wearing it might be a good idea to remind kids and families that masks need to be form fitting and cover the nose and mouth. Bandanas and gaiters are still not approved “masks”. I will also put this information in our next parent communication coming next week. Please reach out to Kelle or Frank if you need any help enforcing masking protocols.

To Do:

SIW 9/15: The school office will be sending a message via School Messenger on Monday to all families about the earlier release time on our first SIW this coming Wednesday. Please help get the word out to families – we can’t over-communicate about this!

Important Dates:

•Wednesday: SIW – Team time
•Thursday: Fire Drill @1:30
•Friday: International Dot Day – I will send out some support materials in the next day or so
