This and That:

Conferences:  Over the past five years, the Elk Meadow staff have voted time and time again (by a large margin) to have our conference schedule be 4-8 on Wednesday, 8-8 on Thursday, and Friday off. We are going to stick to this schedule this spring with the option to trade the 8-12 on Thursday for 8-12 on Friday. Below are a few additional items for you to know for scheduling:

  • Siblings and families that need translators should be scheduled first.  Melinda will be coordinating this over the next few weeks.  THANK YOU, Melinda!!!
  • We will schedule sibling conferences on Tuesday, March 19th in the media center at 8:00. Please come to this meeting with an empty schedule (besides your conferences that require translators).
  • Out of courtesy to your colleagues, please do not schedule a sibling conference outside of our “sibling zone” (Wed 4-8, Thur 12-8) without talking with the siblings’ teachers first.
  • If you choose to conference on Friday, do not plan for there to be any office staff, custodial staff, and/or administration. You will need to plan around this.

Read-a-thon: Like last year, our Elk Meadow sponsored fundraiser this year will be a read-a-thon in early March and will raise money for art education for our students. The read-a-thon will kickoff on March 1st and run through Friday, March 8th. As most of you know, March 2nd is Dr. Seuss birthday (otherwise knowns as Read Across America Day). This falls on a Saturday this year, so will be celebrated on Friday, March 1st. More information will be coming soon, but I wanted to give you all a heads up in case you would like to plan some Read Across America fun on Friday, March 1st in your classroom/ grade level/ wing. Also, if it works for your classroom, it would be great if you could schedule a 20 minute reading block each day of our read-a-thon. More information soon.

Art Inspiration: Have you ever tried art for a brain break? For example, call out an emotion and have your students show that emotion on their faces and/or bodies. Another idea is to put types of movement on sticks (eg: slow, heavy, strong, low.) Pull a stick and have them move to music or transition using that type of movement.

PLC Training: Brenna, Kristin, Jenn, Jessica, and Kelle will be out of the building at a PLC training with Marzano Associates through Thursday. We are excited for this opportunity and are hopeful our learning will impact the further development of our PLC’s at Elk Meadow.

To Do:

PBIS:  Our systems work better when we are all working with the same understanding. With that in mind, please follow this link to a document called “Systems Review February 2019″.  This is a brief overview of three daily systems; Busy Duty, Lunch, and FYI.  Please take a moment to review this 1 page document as a fidelity check and to ask for clarification from Frank if needed.  Thank you for all that you do to support our students.

Art Workshops: As in past rounds of art workshops, we are short on spots for our K/1 students. Please consider if there is anything you can do to help provide more K/1 spots. Here is a link to the sign-ups.

Random Acts of Kindness: Random Acts of Kindness Week is February 19-22. Encourage students to practice being kind. RAK Excellent Eagles available in office and can be made available to students to give to each other.

Winter SLGG Sign-ups: Certified staff… if you have not already signed-up for a SLGG spot, please do it now here.  More directions can be found in last week’s Eagle Essentials.
