Book Exhange 2023

This and That:

Report Card “Tights”:

  • Report cards are due (written, printed, stuffed in envelopes, and turned into the office) by noon on Monday 2/6.
  • Scores should not depend on which teacher a student has.  (i.e., one teacher grades “easy” while another teacher grades “hard.”)
  • Scores should reflect student proficiency on each standard.  Do not inflate scores out of kindness, and do not decrease a score to make a point.  Scores may be used as part of future identification processes and should be able to be backed up by factual data.  Be sure to work with case managers regarding scoring students on IEPs.
  • Scoring between grade levels should be consistent.  A student shouldn’t get a “3” in a standard at the end of one grade and enter the next grade at a level “1.”
  • Comments should reflect that you know and care about each child.

Thursday, February 2nd Plans:

  • Classified: Please make sure you are registered for the morning district training session. Once you have completed that training, please return to EME to join the rest of the staff. • Certified: We will have staff time from 8:00-12:00: Cybersecurity Training (about 30 minutes), SLGGs, and Committee work time (more information coming). Those who have not completed the YouthTruth survey will need to complete it on this day as well.

Book Exchange Leftover Books: Please feel free to take any of the leftover books for your classroom libraries. Also, please bring your students by the tables and allow them to take as many books as they would like by the end of the day on Monday. Parent volunteers will be donating the remainder of the books on Tuesday.

Translator/interpreter Levels of Support: (From Kinsey) We have a growing number of translation and interpretation resources to support a variety of needs.  Using these correctly avoids budget expenses for your building/dept, increases family engagement and school culture goals, and upholds civil rights.  Please ensure your staff (particularly front-office, counseling, athletics, and other family-facing teams) are clearly aware of this information and how to access these levels of support.  If you have questions, contact your Language Specialist (Jessica) or admin. (Frank and Kelle).

SIW: This Wednesday will be a “B” week for our specialist schedule. The SIW this Wednesday is “Teacher Prep.”

Monday Staff Meeting Agenda: No Monday staff meeting this week.

Focus on Excellence and Equity:

Why Foundational Skills:

Foundational Skills Reminders: Although all staff has permission to be wherever they are on the journey with foundational skills, we all need to be on the same path. Below are a couple of items that 100% of our classrooms should have accomplished by this time in the journey. Please reach out immediately if you need support with either of these expected items:

  • 100% of classroom teachers are teaching the whole group lesson from Really Great Reading at least four days per week in whole group.
  • K-2 posters and wall cards are posted.
  • 3-5 posters are on the wall, and sound spelling cards are utilized.

2/15 Educator Network Day (From Julie Walker): Our third Educator Network Day is just around the corner on February 15th from 2:00-3:15.  Classroom Teachers will be able to choose which session they would like to attend.  We will have 15+ choices available. More information about choices will come out this week. **Note from Kelle – I will provide time at our 2/2 in-service day to look at the options and register.**
