This and That:
Staffing Updates:
- For those of you that didn’t hear this already, Frank will be moving out of administration and into a special education teaching role next year. He is making this change to create space for him to focus more on his own needs and be more available to his family. While I am proud and excited for Frank, his steadiness, kindness, and friendship will be sorely missed.
- Kayla has decided to take a year-long leave of absence next year to focus on her health, happiness, and possible next career steps. Kayla has been a consistent presence on our kindergarten team for several years now; it won’t feel the same without her. But I’m proud of her for making the brave decision to put her needs first.
- Rashelle’s last day was on Tuesday, January 31. Jamie Olson will be joining our SPED team starting on Monday, February 6th. Please be sure to introduce yourself and give Jamie a warm welcome.
Committee Time: I have removed one Monday staff meeting per month and replaced it with a committee check-in time. March 3, April 3, and May 1 will all be committee time instead of a staff meeting. This has been changed on the master calendar.
UKG Site Maintenance – In preparation for our anticipated Go Live date of February 13, staff will not be able to access UKG features starting on February 2nd. This will allow our implementation team to perform site maintenance, and users (except a select few) won’t have access to any UKG functionality.
UKG Time and Leave FAQs (From HR) – UKG Time and Leave will go live on Monday, February 13. Here is a document that we will update as new questions arise.
SIW: This Wednesday will be a “C” week for our specialist schedule. The SIW this Wednesday is “School Discretion,” and it will be Core Effectiveness. Anna will be leading our Core Effectiveness time in the media center on Wednesday, where we will take a look at reading data to determine how well our core instruction is meeting the needs of our students.
Monday Staff Meeting Agenda: No Monday staff meeting this week.
Focus on Excellence and Equity:
Bias Lessons: As we wrap up the first semester, now is a great time to revisit the topic of respect, inclusion, and expectations around bias incidents, slurs, and reporting procedures. We addressed this topic systematically this fall via our Bias Incident Student Lessons, but we know complex topics like equity, bias, and inclusion deserve ongoing energy. To that end, here are some one-pager lesson ideas for taking another step into conversation with students on this topic. While these are not required K-12 across all schools like this past fall, we know many teachers reported having very productive and meaningful conversations with students as a result of the Bias Incident lessons, and many folks have asked for ideas to expand that conversation and to take the next step in pulling our Equity Stance into classroom conversation. LEAD/Equity Coaches can visit you or your grade level to support implementation. (**Note from Kelle – Please consider adding these lessons to your daily SEL time.**)
TLC Update: Here is a link to the 2/1 TLC Update. The update for this week includes lots of information, including:

- And more!

Safety Related Information:
EME Safety Concern Form: Link here. You can use this form to report any safety concerns – big or small. Please use this form or talk directly with Frank or Kelle.
To Do:
Report Cards: Report cards are due (written, printed, stuffed in envelopes, and turned into the office) by noon on Monday, 2/6.
Educator Network Day (From Julie Walker): The next Educator Network Day is February 15th from 2:00-3:15. Here is a list of options to choose from. Please sign up on Performance Matters by February 3rd in order for presenters to plan for numbers in each session. Your administrator will give you a few minutes to sign up during building professional learning on February 2nd. **Note from Kelle – I totally forgot to remind you to sign up on Thursday. Please sign-up now if you haven’t already.**
Parent Volunteers: Before a volunteer can begin, you need to get official confirmation from Nicole or Chris that the parent has passed the background check. Once they say yes, you will need to add them to this weekly google document letting us know who to expect each day.
