8.8.2019 Welcome Back!

Greetings Team Elk Meadow!

It’s almost time for us to welcome our students back to school. I hope this letter finds you in a relaxed and recharged state of mind and excited to greet a new classroom of students.  Below is a rundown of your first week back to work so that you can start your planning.

Certified staff have a contractual obligation of working 190 days during the school year.  At least five of these days will be served before school starts (follow this link for a deeper description of each of these days). These five days include 2 days of building in-service, 2 days of your own work time, and one additional in-service day that varies by your position.  Below is an outline of Tuesday 8/27 – Thursday 8/29 when all certified staff are expected to be in attendance.  I will have more specifics about each day when we meet on Tuesday.

Tuesday, 8/27    Building In-service (Day #185)
8:00-12:00 – All staff welcome back in media center (Light snacks and coffee provided)
12:00-1:00 – Lunch on your own
1:00-4:00 – District Welcome Back at Bend High School (All staff are required to attend if it is during your work hours.)

Wednesday, 8/28    Teacher Work Day (Day #186)
8:30-4:30- Teacher Work Day
4:30-6:00- Open House

Thursday, 8/29    Building Inservice (Day #187)
7:30-9:00 – Compensation time for open house
9:00- 12:00- All staff time
12:00-1:00- Lunch on your own
1:00-3:30- All staff time

You may choose when you work Day #188 which is the second pre-school year work day.  You can complete day #188 on any of the following dates, provided you are not attending a required in-service activity on that date:  Monday 8/26 (except for new teachers); Friday 8/30; or Tuesday 9/3.

Day #189 is an in-service day in which some positions may have a required training and some may choose their training.  This year, many positions DO NOT have a required training. Choice activities might include (but aren’t limited to) the Innovative Teaching Conferences (you can choose to attend one or multiple days), multi-day math or literacy trainings, and more.  Please check with me if you are not sure if a training you took would count.

It is my understanding that ELL and SPED staff will have a required training for day #189 (hopefully you have heard about a date and time because I have not.)

Day #190 is a personal choice in-service day that certified staff can serve any time outside of your contracted work hours between June 18, 2019 and June 12, 2020.

Please follow this link and enter the date and activity for your day #188, #189, and #190.

Classified staff have one day beyond student contact.  All classified staff will work on Tuesday, August 28 starting at 8:00.  Please plan on attending at least the portion of the District Welcome Back that fits within your work hours.  Be sure to let me know if you have any questions.

One homework assignment:  Please send Jessica Scott a photo from your summer no later than Friday, August 23rd (you don’t even have to be in the photo.)

I am looking forward to seeing you all soon and working with you this year. I am very excited about what we will all be able to achieve together for our students.  Please feel free to call or email if you have any questions.  In the meantime, go back to your summer!
