This and That:
No Meeting September: I heard about some grade level teams that were thinking they couldn’t meet due to No Meeting September… yikes! Sorry for the confusion! Of course grade level teams can/ probably NEED to meet. This is just my effort to not add building level meetings as you are getting your feet under you for the year.
9/18 SIW: Our SIW this week will be to work on tier 2 & 3 math supports. In order to make the most out of this time, please ensure that all students (even if they were absent when you gave the assessment) have taken the Number Corner Baseline, it has been scored, and data has been entered into Forefront PRIOR to Wednesday.
Apple TVs: Several K-2 teachers have been asking if they can get an Apple TV for their classroom, but I have had to say probably not until next year. Great news!… I found out on Monday that all classrooms K-5 will have an Apple TV shortly. The Apple TVs have already been ordered… and I will let you know when I know more about an installation date.
Dreambox Math: As we shared before school started, Bend-La Pine purchased a program called Dreambox Math for grades 3-5 for this school year. Additionally, Elk Meadow has purchased access for K-2 for the year as well. Debbi, Sara, Debbie, and I attended a training this past week and were QUITE impressed with what we saw. I highly recommend all teachers get your kids going on this program (more soon about all the benefits!) Grades 3-5 are ready for action (please chat with Debbi and/or Sara if you would like some support getting it going). Debbie Garrett will be working with Scott McDonald over the next couple of weeks to brainstorm the easiest way for K-2 students to access the program. More info on that soon.
Mini Observations: Mini observations will be starting this week. When I meet with you after the observation, we will also be taking a few minutes to take a look at your daily schedule together so please be sure that you schedule is up to date in our master schedule.
Translation and Interpreters: If you need translation support with items you send home to parents, please send the document (not .pdf) to Jody McBride. If you need an interpreter, please see Sue, April, or Melinda if you need support making the request. A few other helpful tips:
- Documents for translation take approximately 5-7 school days for turn around. It can be longer during busy times.
- Please send your documents as an attachment in an email, and in manipulative form (Word, Pages etc) if at all possible. PDF’s are difficult to translate and take longer. Please don’t convert a PDF to Word. It ends up corrupted for the translator.
- Remember to request your interpreter(s) on the portal 5-7 school days in advance unless it is an emergency issue such as medical, discipline, etc. The HDESD will always try to fill every request, but sometimes there isn’t anyone available last minute.
- Please notify Sue in advance if the appointment is cancelled or changed. We are charged for cancellations with less than 24 hours notice.
