Thank you, El K, for all the fun and laughs each month!

This and That:

Art Workshops:  Thank you for a smooth first round of art workshops! The students had so much enthusiasm after the first day!

Conferences: Some more details about conferences:

  • Grade level teams… be sure you are calibrating what conferences will look like at your grade level.
  • We will schedule sibling conferences on Tuesday, March 17th in the media center at 2:45. Please come to this meeting with an empty schedule (besides your conferences that require translators).
  • Out of courtesy to your colleagues, please do not schedule a sibling conference outside of our “sibling zone” (Wed 3:30-7:30, Thur 11:30-7:30) without talking with the siblings’ teachers first.

This Week: Jess will be out of the building Wednesday-Friday. Kelle will be out of the building at the state ELL conference with Melinda (who will be presenting our co-teaching ELL model!!) on Thursday-Friday. Please make sure Frank isn’t lonely and has plenty to do. 😉

Relationship, Responsibility and Regulation Quotes:

When you are trying to figure out a student’s needs, it is not always pretty. When you find yourself in this place give yourself permission to slow down. Reflect on what the deeper need is and look for a positive outcome. First, understand the student. Second, identify the unmet need. Third, establish safety (emotional and physical safety). Fourth, offer healthy alternatives to meet the need in the future.”

Article of the Week: In honor of “empathy” being our character trait for the month of March:  Why Intentionally Building Empathy Is More Important Now Than Ever

“I truly feel that the cultural forces that are pushing us apart are so vast and so prevalent that acting with empathy, and trying to connect despite them, is a radical act,” Zaki said. “It takes pushing back against something in order to reclaim that common humanity….”

“Jamil Zaki agrees with Beam that deep empathy is about connection. But his research shows that empathy can be developed, like a muscle. And, he thinks that could affect the world positively not only at the individual level…”

To Do:

Read-a-thon: The read-a-thon is THIS WEEK March 9-13 with Dr. Seuss inspired spirit days each day of the week. Monday is “Cat in the Hat Day” and we have a free hat in the office for any staff that don’t have one. Tuesday is “The Lorax Day” and I’m hoping to have mustaches available for all staff who need one (hoping the Amazon package arrives on time).  Please do what you can to promote and encourage participation.

Field Trip Forms: If you are planing to take any field trips between now and the end of the year, please complete your paperwork by the end of this week so we can get it on the calendar and plan more effectively for the end of the year.
