Principal’s Hello
What a great week it was at PCMS! The sun is shining, and students are settling into their routines. In order to continue the calm and orderly lunch and recess time from the rest of the week, we transitioned to two lunches on Wednesday, and the students nailed it.
We hope to see you all this Wednesday, September 28 at Back to School Night! Remember that first period starts at 6:00 PM. Don’t get a tardy! (I will be in the cafeteria with our assistant principal and dean of students starting at 5:30 PM. Come early! We’d love to meet you!)
Doors Open at 8:35 AM
We’ve heard from a few people that we should open our doors earlier. For the time being, all middle schools have an 8:35 AM opening. This is when the kitchen is ready for breakfast service and is what we are staffed for and can supervise. Our district opening time for the middle schools is 8:35 AM. If we were to open the doors earlier, the students would be unsupervised, and it would not be safe. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Counselors’ Survey
Here at Pacific Crest, we believe a strong relationship between our school staff and our families allows us to create a partnership that leads to great outcomes for all of our learners. Our Counseling Department plays a huge role in fostering that relationship, as they are the resources in our building for students and families alike to utilize to get a wide range of information to help navigate the formative adolescent years. In order to help them learn how to best serve your individual student(s) and the community at large, our Counseling Department has created a Google Form to gain more information about your student’s personality, goals, and needs – as well as how they might be a better resource for you as a parent. Please take a few moments to complete the form and help them in their work.
iPad Reminders for Students
To allow for learning success, we ask that guardians remind their students of the following information to be prepared for class each day.
- iPad insurance purchase by date
- All iPads must be in an intact case (front and back cover)
- Help kids succeed by creating a routine of charging the iPad each night. A dead iPad can’t “do school.” Chargers tend to get lost/taken at school. A fully charged iPad will last all day when used appropriately for school.
- Always use the iPad charger that came with the iPad. Phone chargers are underpowered. If their charger is lost they can buy a new one. The brick is $20, the cord is $10.
Athletics Attendance Policy
The Bend/La Pine School District requires athletes to be in class for the entire day of a contest and/or practice in order to participate. If the athlete has an excused medical appointment, we understand. However, if the athlete is missing class(es) because of an illness or other absence where they were not well enough to be in school, they will be unable to participate in practice or contest that day. Athletes are also expected to be in school, on time, the day following an athletic event. Thank you for understanding and for your partnership.
From Summit HS Athletic Director
Thank you for the amazing turnout at our Summit HS sports contests! We do need to remind our middle school students of a few things, however:
Any spectator not following the OSAA/Bend-LaPine district guidelines for sportsmanship may be banned from further contests. We do not allow backpacks, skateboards, or balls into the game. Please leave these at home. Digital tickets can be purchased ahead of time at www.bit.ly/sh-athletics.
