Principal’s Hello

Dear Golden Eagle Families,

Happy Friday, and thank you for another great week at PCMS! Our kids looked sharp and smiled big for picture day, and it was great to see all of you at Back to School Night! Thank you also to PCCO for hosting the information session.

This was an exciting week: our new registrar started, we added soccer goals to the playground, and our athletes put in some good effort on the playing fields. Overall, students are doing well in class too, as evidenced by the classroom norms they created with their teachers. Here are a few examples:

As you can see, students know what is and is not appropriate behavior in classrooms. They’re doing a good job following our expectations.

Thank you for your teamwork! We couldn’t do this without you! Have a great weekend with your families.

Sean

A Message from PCCO: Fill the Nest Giving Campaign Launches

The Pacific Crest Community Organization (PCCO) is excited to kick off our annual “Fill Our
Nest” Giving Campaign. This one-time annual fundraising campaign runs from September 28th thru October 31st 2023. Your donations will support a multitude of enriching activities, events, programs and grants for our students and staff. This year, our goal is to raise $20,000 in financial support from our community. These funds support programs such as school social events, teacher/staff grants, school enrichment clubs, funds/scholarships for field trips and outdoor school for each grade level. None of these programs would be possible without the support of this fantastic community.

Please consider making a one-time, tax-deductible, financial gift (tax ID# 47-4312566) to the
PCCO “Fill Our Nest” Giving Campaign. There are multiple ways to donate. To find our how, please click on the following:

Halloween Dance & Social

It’s that time of year when students start thinking about costumes for Halloween. Our annual Halloween social is October 20 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM. We will provide more information soon. Please make sure your student’s costume aligns with our expectations:

Message From a Small-Business Owner at The Grove

I am reaching out today to get some help with some of the students behavior that has been taking place before and after school. A lot of the students like to hang out at the market hall, but don’t seem to understand or want to adhere to the rules that have been placed to keep businesses and other patrons safe and happy.

Since the beginning of the school year, we have had to constantly remind students about:

– Not riding their bikes or scooters on the patio.
– Park or lock their devices at a designated bike rack.
– Clean up after themselves.
– Respect the space by keeping volume at a minimum.
– Be a patron and not loiter.
– Respect the staff.

I have had to single out a few students in particular and speak with them about the expectations and rules here, and unfortunately, they don’t seem to understand. Yesterday I had to send a student home and ask them to not return.

The whole market hall will be having a meeting in the next week to discuss whether we will allow unsupervised students from the middle and high school, to be allowed on the property during the week.

  • Students will be expected to sit in the bleachers.
  • Students are not allowed to reenter the stadium once they leave.
  • The cost is $6 for adults and $4 for students. Digital tickets are available for purchase now.

Golden Eagle Athletic Highlights

This week in sports, it was a battle for the West Side!

Wednesday evening, the 7th grade PCMS football team racked up another win after an 18-8 victory over west-side rival, Cascade Middle School. The Golden Eagles pulled ahead 18-0 before the end of the first half. Turnovers, combined with a strong Cascade offense, made for a tight 4th quarter with Pacific Crest’s defense holding strong in the closing seconds of the game with Cascade at the PCMS 20-yard line. The 7th grade team is continuing to improve on both offense and defense, holding their first two opponents to a single score each game.

The 8th grade football team also faced rival Cascade in a battle for the West Side. Cascade came out and got a quick score to make it 6-0, and PCMS responded with a score of their own to tie the game.  Both teams scored again in the second quarter and went into halftime tied at 12-12.  PCMS took control in the second half, winning the turnover battle and racked up touchdowns through the air and on the ground.  With 22 unanswered points in the second half, PCMS was victorious, with the final score 34-12.  Next week, PCMS hosts Pilot Butte at 5 pm on Wednesday in their lone home game of the season.

On the volleyball court, it was a good week for both teams. Against Cascade, our 7th grade Team C won one game and Team B won three games. Our 8th grade team lost their first set but came back and won two sets to take the match. There were some key hits in the front row and our serving was much better. Against Pilot Butte, the 8th grade team made a complete team effort and had an amazing clean sweep for team A. Many players were challenged with playing up a level and they succeeded expectations, and they are improving everyday.

Our PCMS cross country runners had a meet at Cascade Middle School against Pilot Butte, Bend International, Three Rivers, and Cascade. Our runners placed first in 6th grade boys and girls, 7th grade boys, and 8th grade boys and girls. They also placed second in 7th grade girls. We also had overall individual race winners of 6th grade boys, 7th grade boys, and 8th grade boys and girls.

Way to go, Golden Eagles!
