Meal Information

As shared in previous editions of this newsletter and on our website, we will be eating outdoors whenever possible this year. This week, we were able to eat outside all three days, despite the smoke and the rain. We got better each day and have some systems in place to help students space out better. Our students continue to model our motto that “Golden Eagles are the best at getting better” and I am proud of them for their resilience.

That said, it would be a huge help to us all if you could have a talk with your student this weekend around them having agency and choosing to sit at least 6 feet away from others. We all have a role to play in keeping schools safe and open this year, and our best intentions of engineering environments to get the desired results will only work if students are willing to be compliant. Our success everyday is built upon the partnership between school and home, and a strong partnership around safety is particularly important as we continue to work together to put the best interests of all students at the forefront of our thoughts and actions.

On the same note, please discuss the importance of not littering with your student this weekend. We have ample trashcans placed strategically outside and yet each day we have had to spend time cleaning up a disappointing amount of lunch trash after students head inside. Littering is a personal pet peeve of mine and I find it disheartening that many of our students have the habit of not placing their rubbish in the trash can after lunch. Thank you for your support and partnership on this as well.

Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up

I have been so impressed by how smooth our drop-off and pick-up has gone this week! Thank you so very much to all of you for pulling as far forward as possible, ensuring students are prepared to make a quick exit from the vehicle, and being patient as you enter and exit! This seemingly mundane task is critical to students getting to class on time and in an orderly fashion, so I appreciate how well it went this week.

News from our Nurse: Covid-19

To limit the spread of COVID-19 within the school setting, parents should monitor
their student’s daily health and keep them home for any of the scenarios listed on the
Guidance for Parents. You’ll hear this a lot from me this year – we need to stay safe so we can stay open.

This Year’s Internet Hot Spot Needs

At this time, our district is preparing to loan internet hot spots to families that do NOT have Internet access, who are either involved in Targeted Remote Learning programs or referred by a FAN Advocate or building principal. Hot spots will be available beginning September 21. If your household is in need of a hot spot, please contact our FAN Advocate, Heidi Odman at (541) 355-5674 or [email protected]. Families will be required to complete a loan agreement prior to receiving the hot spot.

Last Year’s Hotspots

The district is missing over 500 hotspots that were not turned into schools last spring. These hotspots are not active and not of any use to students. If you happen to have one, please return it to PCMS office so we can issue to students who are in need.
