Principal’s Hello

Dear Golden Eagle Families,

What beautiful fall weather we are having! So many students are going outside for recess — it’s awesome!

Today, we began our fall spirit competition in advisory. It’s a two-part competition: students decorate classroom doors in a fall theme and also wear school colors for the next three Fridays. On Friday the 20th, the culminating day of the competition, a panel of judges will tally the number of students with school spirit during the three-week competition as well assess the creativity, artistry, and engineering of the door decorations. (We are using a 0-4 rubric.)

The winning advisory gets a special party and treat on the Monday after the dance. Remember that students are allowed to wear costumes to school for the dance and for Halloween. Please ensure the costume follows our guidelines below and that faces are not covered.

Thank you, and have a great weekend!

Fall Conferences – Wed, 10/25 and Thur, 10/26

Fall conferences are upon us! We know you just met your teacher at Back to School Night, so it might feel like these are coming on too soon.

Our fall conferences are 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, 10/25 and 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, 10/26.

Look at your student’s grades. Are they pretty good — mostly A’s and B’s? If so, you should not fret about scheduling a conference. If, however, your student is struggling in a class, then meeting with that teacher might be a good idea.

Our fall conferences are 15 minutes long, just enough time to have a substantive conversation about your student’s performance in that class and to learn how you can support your student at home.

In the spring, we plan to have open house conferences, where you can drop in on any teacher to chat. For these fall conferences, however, we are focused on one student and one class at a time. Space is very limited, and, again, we are hoping to primarily serve the families of students struggling in a class. Thank you for understanding.

In next Friday’s “News From the Nest,” we will include a link for you to sign up for a conference.

Student Rules for Attending HS Football Games

  • All students entering a high school football game must show a school-issued identification (can be a digital image on a phone). Students without an identification will NOT be permitted to enter.
  • Students are encouraged NOT to bring bags into the stadium. Students entering with bags and/or backpacks will have them searched before entering the stadium.
  • All middle school students wanting to attend a high school football game MUST attend with their parent or guardian.
  • All students MUST behave in a way that is safe and appropriate for the game. If a warning is issued to a student due to poor behavior, the student identification will be recorded (scanned) as the first offense. A second offense can result in the student’s removal from the stadium.

Golden Eagle Sports Highlights

Eighth grade volleyball had an epic week with clean sweep victories for all levels both Tuesday and Thursday. We are playing great volleyball right now, and we are ready to take on the High Desert powerhouse next week.

Our 7th grade volleyball team had their first away challenge. We took our first C team loss to LaPine, but our B team came back to win. Our team continues to keep working hard and improving.

On Tuesday, our cross country runners had a meet at Three Rivers K-8 against Bend International, Cascade Middle School, Realms Middle School, and Westside Village. Our runners placed first in 6th grade boys and girls, 7th grade boys, and 8th grade boys and girls. They also placed second in 7th grade girls. We had overall individual race winners of 8th grade boys, and individual second place winners in every race.

On Wednesday, the 8th grade football team hosted Pilot Butte in their lone home game of the season. For the 8th grade team, the last chance to play at their school field was a special one.  The Golden Eagles raced out to a 24-0 lead in the first quarter. Building off of that momentum, the score was 36-0 at halftime, where it remained for the rest of the game. Led by three turnovers, PCMS was able to stop Pilot Butte and continue their strong start to the season at 3-0. The attention shifts to next week’s game at Sky View.

The 7th grade football team lost its first game this week, splitting a two-game series with Cascade. The Golden Eagles learned some valuable lessons in the defeat and are looking toward next week’s matchup at home against Sky View Middle School.
