Principal’s Hello

Dear Golden Eagle Families,

It was another awesome week here at PCMS. We had science field trips to Skyliner Lodge, art field trips to local galleries, our 8th grade class assembly, and our final track meet. (Onward to districts!)

We continued our state testing and analyzed our Waypoints data in Advisory. Since 2023, we’ve seen growth in every category of this survey: adaptability, agency, collaboration, empathy, purpose, and self-awareness. This is all thanks to our amazing teachers and staff.

By the way, today concludes our Teacher Appreciation Week. If you haven’t already, please choose just one of your student’s teachers, and send them an email for all the hard work they do. I remember every single teacher I’ve ever had. Teachers truly make a difference and change lives.

Enjoy the sunshine with your family!

Sean

Learning in our own backyard

Our 6th grade science students traveled to Skyliner Lodge this week to learn about what makes a healthy ecosystem. Students gathered water quality data including water temperature, pH and dissolved oxygen, and collected and identified macroinvertebrates. Students also hiked along Tumalo Creek and had fun with team building. Ultimately, students will be comparing their data with Mirror Pond to determine which ecosystem is healthier and identifying solutions to improve Mirror Pond.

We thank all of our wonderful volunteers who attended to provide additional support and supervision while having fun in the sun and learning as well. And a special thanks to our PCCO who made these field trips possible for our students by covering the costs of our substitutes and bus transportation.

Screen Time & Mental Health

Most parents say it’s important to talk to kids about screen time and mental health. Too much screen time can lead to issues with sleep, focus, social skills, and anxiety and depression.

  • For mental health support, you can call, text, or chat 988 at any time.

For local support: KIDS Center has materials and free local trainings to help parents and caregivers protect youth from the potential harms of media and technology use.  Start with this Grade by Grade Guide to Media Use and KIDS Center’s Training Calendar to see what free local trainings are available.
