Principal’s Message

Dear Golden Eagle Families,

Happy Friday! I’m so proud of our arts teachers this week. Ms. Cramer hosted some cool arts field trips downtown, and our other arts teachers hosted Featured Artists Night, which was a mixed media extravaganza of music, print, and sculpture.

I also hope you saw the Family Bulletin and this month’s Champion for Students Award. Carey Kraybill, our Design and Modeling teacher, won this award and was presented the award by Superintendent Steve Cook. Carey’s commitment to real-world design problems and assistive technology speaks to the heart of 21st century learning and represents the best of PCMS.

As we move closer to Memorial Day, I want to recognize all our teachers who, at mile 20 of the marathon, continue to do outstanding work for our kids. If you didn’t reach out to offer your support during Teacher Appreciation Week, please consider doing so now.

Thanks for being on the journey with us–we’re almost there!

Math Bypass Testing

During the first week of June, 6th and 7th grade students who are interested in bypassing a level of Mathematics instruction will have the opportunity to take a bypass assessment. The bypass assessment is not available for students in 8th grade to bypass high school courses as these courses earn credit toward graduation.

This assessment will evaluate students’ understanding of key concepts in Number and Operations as well as Algebra and Algebraic Thinking, in order to determine whether they have mastered the skills taught in the grade level they wish to skip.

Please complete this Registration Form to let us know you would like your child to take the bypass assessment.

At PCMS, the bypass test will take place on Wednesday, June 4, starting at 9:00 AM . Test results will be shared within a few days, and families will then be guided through the next steps based on the outcome.

Host Families Needed for Japanese Exchange Students

We’re excited to share a unique opportunity to host middle school students from Nagoya, Japan, who will visit Bend from September 19th to 27th as part of a cultural exchange program. Please note: hosting dates may change to September 21-27.

We are looking for 28 host families to welcome these students into their homes during their stay. While in Bend, the students will attend classes at Pacific Crest Middle School, and host families will be responsible for providing room, board, and transportation to and from school each day.

Hosting exchange students is a meaningful way to share cultures, build global connections, and create lasting memories for your family and the visiting students.

If you’re interested in hosting or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email Ami Zepnewski at [email protected].
