School Items Gone Missing

Our custodial staff noticed a number of our bathroom signage missing last week. What we originally suspected was typical, yet still bothersome, adolescent hijinks turned out to be something more sinister – students are taking a cue from a TikTok trend to steal various items from our school. In particular, the soap dispensers and restroom signage have gone missing from many of our restrooms on campus. Not only are these items costly, but they have removed paint from the wall in many cases as well – creating a further nuisance that is also expensive for us in terms of the labor and materials required to repair the destruction. Further, the bathroom signs are legally-required per the American with Disabilities Act because they include braille signage. The soap dispensers are a hygienic necessity.

Please, if your student is using TikTok, talk with them about not following a trend by stealing from school. You can check out CommonSenseMedia’s rundown on TikTok if you, like me, are not too familiar with TikTok. The bottom line is what some students have said, “it is just a joke” is actually vandalism and/or theft and it is unacceptable. Thank you for your support in helping our students understand the importance of not following harmful trends and in taking pride in their community.

Remote Curriculum Night

In lieu of our typical in-person Curriculum Night, we will be hosting a WebEx Curriculum Night event on Wednesday the 22nd from 6:30 – 7:30. We will review some basic Pacific Crest information, go through the class offerings here at Pacific Crest, and share some information on how you can stay more involved with your student’s learning this year. For those unable to attend, I will record the event and will share it in next week’s “News From the Nest”.

Drop-Off/Pick-Up Update

Drop-off and Pick-Up have continued to go smoothly each afternoon and each morning, thank you for that. The high number of bicyclists, walkers, and bus riders help to keep congestion down. For drivers of those students who are dropped off via car, please continue to pull forward and stay in line.

I had a parent share that, despite my repeated pleas not to do so, they prefer to drop their student off in the parking lot to avoid spending time in the long line of cars. I replied that dropping off students in the parking lot actually leads to an increase in the line, as cars have to stop while staff escorts students through the crosswalk and cars re-entering the flow of traffic to exit the parking lot does further stall the line. Please, think of the greater good and use the flow of traffic as designed for drop-offs and pick-ups. Thank you!

Counseling Questionnaire

Here at Pacific Crest, we believe in a strong relationship between our school staff and our families allows us to create a partnership that leads to great outcomes for all of our learners. Our Counseling Department plays a huge role in fostering that relationship, as they are the resources in our building for students and families alike to utilize to get a wide-range of information to help navigate the formative adolescent years. In order to help them learn how to best serve your individual student(s) and the community at large, our Counseling Department has created a Google Form to gain more information about your student’s personality, goals, and needs – as well as how they might be a better resource for you as a parent. Please take a few moments to complete the form and help them in their work.

Schedule Adjustments

Now that we’ve settled in to the routine of a school year, we have started to look at ways we can balance some classes. As a result, we’ve made some moves in a select number of math classes to balance the load between classes. Families whose students are moving math classes were contacted, so please be sure you are checking your email and voicemail in case we were unable to connect via phone.

All other schedule change requests will be not be considered until the semester ends in February.

Deschutes County Health Services Parent Workshops

Connect Workshops, a free 2-hour workshop designed for parents or guardians of 5th-12th graders, to equip them with the information, skills and coaching to have effective prevention conversations with their children around substance use. DHS has 12 virtual workshops which will take place September through November (10 in English, 2 in Spanish). Do you need more info, see English and Spanish flyers or go to Coalition Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/SharedFutureCoalition/).

Hispanic Heritage Month

This week marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, which began September 15th, a month dedicated to recognizing the heritage, culture, and important contributions of Hispanic/Latino Americans in the U.S.

A high number of our students and families of color district-wide have shared that they don’t always feel represented in our curriculum as compared to our white students, and that in some cases the only time their heritage is included is in the context of hard history, struggle, or deficit. With over 12% of Bend-La Pine’s population identifying as Hispanic/Latino, it is critical that we take proactive opportunities to acknowledge, affirm, and honor the assets these students and families bring to our community and classrooms. Recognitions like Hispanic Heritage Month bring about an opportunity and responsibility to share a complete history of contributions to our great nation.

Please, ask your student throughout the month about what they’ve learned about these important people and events.

Crossing Guard Needed

We are SO delighted to have such a large amount of students walk and ride their bikes to school. Not only is this easing congestion in our parking lot, it’s teaching students the joy of functional exercise and building the habit of alternative transportation options. Win-win-win!

To help ensure all of our cyclists and walkers get to school safely, we’ve typically had a crossing guard at the intersection of NW Skyline Ranch Rd and NW Lolo Dr to help facilitate the final intersection students encounter on their trip to and from school. This year, we are looking for parent volunteers to take on this responsibility. If you are interested in helping out with a shift or two, or have more questions, please email Christina Johansen for more information. We appreciate the support!

Covid-19 Information & Case Reporting

To limit the spread of COVID-19 within the school setting, parents should monitor
their student’s daily health and keep them home for any of the scenarios listed on the
Guidance for Parents.

Between Monday and Friday, please contact Anita Garland, our amazing School Nurse, if your child tests positive for Covid-19 or is identified as a close contact of someone who tested positive for Covid-19 so she can ask clarifying questions and provide direction on next steps.

Post Covid-19 Vaccination Symptom Reminder

Although many of us who have received the COVID-19 vaccination have experienced our immune systems working hard (aka side effects). Please remember, even if you think that your symptoms are related to your vaccine, you are still expected to follow these guidelines.

I’ve already told you that you’ll hear this a lot from me this year, so I’m not going to shy away from repeating it here – we need to stay safe so we can stay open.

Meal Information

As shared in previous editions of this newsletter and on our website, we will be eating outdoors whenever possible this year. This week, we were able to eat outside all three days, despite the smoke and the rain. We got better each day and have some systems in place to help students space out better. Our students continue to model our motto that “Golden Eagles are the best at getting better” and I am proud of them for their resilience.

That said, it would be a huge help to us all if you could have a talk with your student this weekend around them having agency and choosing to sit at least 6 feet away from others. We all have a role to play in keeping schools safe and open this year, and our best intentions of engineering environments to get the desired results will only work if students are willing to be compliant. Our success everyday is built upon the partnership between school and home, and a strong partnership around safety is particularly important as we continue to work together to put the best interests of all students at the forefront of our thoughts and actions.

On the same note, please discuss the importance of not littering with your student this weekend. We have ample trashcans placed strategically outside and yet each day we have had to spend time cleaning up a disappointing amount of lunch trash after students head inside. Littering is a personal pet peeve of mine and I find it disheartening that many of our students have the habit of not placing their rubbish in the trash can after lunch. Thank you for your support and partnership on this as well.

Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up

I have been so impressed by how smooth our drop-off and pick-up has gone this week! Thank you so very much to all of you for pulling as far forward as possible, ensuring students are prepared to make a quick exit from the vehicle, and being patient as you enter and exit! This seemingly mundane task is critical to students getting to class on time and in an orderly fashion, so I appreciate how well it went this week.

School Portrait Day

Just another reminder, Dorian Studios will be onsite this Monday, 9/13/21 to photograph all students and staff members. If you wish order student photo packets online with a credit card, simply follow instructions below in English or Spanish. If you would rather pay with cash or check, you may pick up an order form at PCMS main office. If you have any questions, contact Dorian Studio Support or call 1-800-826-3535.

News from our Nurse: Covid-19

To limit the spread of COVID-19 within the school setting, parents should monitor
their student’s daily health and keep them home for any of the scenarios listed on the
Guidance for Parents. You’ll hear this a lot from me this year – we need to stay safe so we can stay open.

This Year’s Internet Hot Spot Needs

At this time, our district is preparing to loan internet hot spots to families that do NOT have Internet access, who are either involved in Targeted Remote Learning programs or referred by a FAN Advocate or building principal. Hot spots will be available beginning September 21. If your household is in need of a hot spot, please contact our FAN Advocate, Heidi Odman at (541) 355-5674 or [email protected]. Families will be required to complete a loan agreement prior to receiving the hot spot.

Last Year’s Hotspots

The district is missing over 500 hotspots that were not turned into schools last spring. These hotspots are not active and not of any use to students. If you happen to have one, please return it to PCMS office so we can issue to students who are in need.

Calendar

  • Sept. 10 | Last Day to Register and turn in all required paperwork for Fall Sports
  • Sept. 13 | School Portrait Day

It’s Almost Time!

As we get ready to head into the last weekend of summer, it is hard for me to contain my excitement of the start of a new school year. We are looking forward to welcoming students back after a summer break and are happy that we are able to do so in person. There are some safety updates for you and your student to know about ahead of time, so please take a moment to review our district website to learn about the various components of our opening.

Parent Orientation Night Follow-up

Thank you to all who were able to attend Tuesday’s WebEx orientation. I had some trouble with managing some sound elements early, but I think it otherwise went well. We recorded the session for those of you who were unable to make it. Click on this link for the recorded meeting. The password is YmuTmmp2

Canvas (LMS) Instruction

For those of you who were in attendance at the Orientation, you heard me say that high on the list of the most important things you can do to assist your child’s education this year is becoming a Canvas Observer.

The Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) is used by Bend La Pine teachers as an extension to in-class instruction. Teachers using Canvas can post assignments, give feedback and communicate with students. To sign up to be a Canvas Observer and learn more about Canvas, use this link to access the “What is Canvas” page on the Bend-La Pine Website.

Authorization for Medication Administration

Beginning Tuesday, September 7th parents, not students, can bring student medication to the school for us to administer during the school year. Each medication must have a completed Authorization for Medication form which can be downloaded. All medication must be in the original labeled container. Prescription medication needs to have a legible pharmacy label. Drop off medication with Tami Nielsen in the Attendance Office. If you have questions, call Tami at (541) 355-7021. If your student has a health condition you would like to discuss with our school nurse, please reach out to Anita Garland, RN at (541) 355-7824 or [email protected].

Meal Information

For breakfast, students will be outside, weather permitting, spaced out six-feet apart.  Only students who want breakfast will be allowed in the building prior to 9:05.  This meal time will be no more than 15 minutes.

For lunch, we will be eating outside everyday, spaced 6 feet apart, unless outdoor conditions do not allow students to be outside.  If the temperature drops below 20 degrees, precipitation is heavy, or the air quality rises to unhealthy, we will be forced to move lunch inside.  For these days, we will utilize The Nest, hallways, library and gym to ensure students can eat spaced out 6-feet apart.  Additionally, students will be required to put their masks back on as soon as they are done eating.  Knowing that we will default to eating outside whenever possible, please ensure your child has proper clothing to spend 30 minutes outside every day.

Schedule Updates Continue

As we work to balance class sizes as much as possible and enroll new students, please be aware that your student’s schedule may change in the coming days before school and that they should recheck their schedule prior to going to bed Tuesday night to ensure they have the most up-to-date schedule. Any changes that need to be made after school starts will be communicated with families.

New Student Orientation

Tuesday, September 7th, we are excited to host two rounds of New Student Orientation. The first is the 6th Grade WEB Day. Your student, if entering 6th grade, should have received information about this event. If they have not, please contact Christina Johansen [email protected] or (541) 355-7804 for more details.

For 7th and 8th graders entering PCMS for the first time, we will host an orientation from 2:00 – 3:30 on Tuesday the 7th. There is no registration required for this event, your student can just show up with a mask and an enthusiasm for their new school!

Counseling Information

At Pacific Crest, we are proud to have a dedicated counseling team committed to ensuring each student is supportive in a safe and individual way. Our counselors will spend some time in the first few weeks of school visiting classrooms to introduce themselves to students and share some information on how they might help students with school and non-school-related matters. In order to get to know your student better, our counselors have created a Google Form for you to complete and share information on your child.

Our counselors and their assignments (alphabetical by first letter of students’ LAST NAME):

Important iPad Information

  • Returning Students (students with a Bend LaPine issued iPad): A great way to ensure your student has a smooth start for the year is to get their iPad fully charged and updated to the latest iOS.  Next, make sure your student knows their password by logging in to anything that requires username/password. If all of these things are done, your student will be set to start the year and won’t need to miss class time for tech support.
  • New Students (students who don’t currently have an iPad): You will get your iPad on the first few days of school as long as you have a signed AUP (iPad usage agreement) and purchased insurance or parent has signed they do not wish to purchase insurance. Again, we strongly recommend insurance to avoid an unexpected iPad repair or replacement fee ranging from $150-$299 depending on the damage (for more information see August 27, 21 blog entry titled “Required iPad Forms“).
  • Forgotten Passwords: If your student does not know their password please have them contact Ms. Hanna in the Library at (541) 355 7834 or [email protected].
  • Forgotten Lockscreen Passcode: If the iPad is connected to wifi, Ms. Hanna can clear the passcode easily. Please call or email and she will take care of it.
  • StudentVue Password: This password is the same as their password for everything else. If your student is having trouble logging in try deleting the app and getting it again from the Self Service app.

School Onsite COVID-19 Testing

All BLS schools will offer COVID-19 tests to students and staff who become symptomatic during the school day. For some students, COVID-19 testing in K-12 school may represent their only access to a COVID-19 test and the importance of this access cannot be overstated. Click the following link for more info. OHA 3560 COVID-19 Testing in Oregon’s K-12 Schools

How-to Update Information Through ParentVue

Did you know you can update your student’s information in ParentVue? Follow our How-To Guide to get started. Information you can update in ParentVue include home address, emergency contact information and more. Please note, some changes may require additional documents to be uploaded to ParentVue or delivered to the school. Contact the PCMS Main Office at (541) 355-7804 if you have never accessed ParentVue. BLP Return to School Guidance

Tuesday, Aug. 10, Bend-La Pine Schools’ Board of Directors provided conditional approval for the Continuation of In-Person Instruction Plan for 2021-22. The information can be found by visiting the district’s website. We need to continue to be flexible, as things will inevitably change throughout the year.

The bottom line is that we need to stay safe to stay open.

Student Class Schedules Go Live!

Student schedules will be accessible via ParentVue and StudentVue at 8:00am, Monday, August 30th. Please note that student schedules may are still being modified by the counseling department and are subject to change prior to September 8th, so please check them regularly between now and then.

While some changes will likely be made, we are not accepting schedule change requests; building a master schedule is an intricate task and hours upon hours of thought and work went into this schedule to make the classes as balanced as can be. Because of this, we cannot make changes to student schedules for any reason other than to balance class loads and to ensure proper placement. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Parent Orientation Night

In lieu of the traditional Ice Cream Social that is again cancelled, we invite all new parents to a virtual New Parent Orientation Night on Tuesday, August 31 from 5:30 – 6:30pm with our Anne-Marie Schmidt, our new Assistant Principal, and myself to hear all about PCMS – lockers, PE, bell schedules, and how to successfully maneuver the parking lot so it is efficient and convenient for all – and to answer questions related to the new year. This event will be done via WebEx. Please log in to my WebEx room to attend. We look forward to seeing you on screen!

Curriculum Night

Another remote meeting that will help in sharing some of the learning objectives your student will have for the year, we invite you to join us for our Curriculum Night on Wednesday, September 22 from 6:30 – 7:30pm via WebEx. More information will be shared via Advisory as the date gets nearer.

Required iPad Forms

At PCMS, we want to make sure that all of our students understand the expectations that are part of having and using a district-issued iPad. By Friday, September 10, 2021 all students/families MUST complete the following 3 steps:

  1. Become familiar with the Bend La Pine iPad Information Page.
  2. Review the Acceptable Use of Technology form in English or Spanish.
  3. Review the iPad Insurance Program document. Based on this review, log onto Touchbase using your student’s ID # and last name to pay for the annual iPad insurance ($30). We highly recommend that you purchase this insurance. To replace an iPad that is not covered by insurance is $299 and to repair an iPad that is not covered by insurance is $150.

Start of School Online Purchases!

Now is the time to purchase the following items online by going to https://touchbase.bend.k12.or.us/

  • $30.00 Annual iPad Insurance (Purchase prior to 9/30/21. After 9/30/21 students will need to have their iPads inspected prior to purchasing insurance.)
  • $40.00 Fall Sports Pay-to-Play (Per sport fee; payment deadline is 9/10/21.) Please remember to complete all athletic registration steps in addition to paying. Registration and scholarship information is available on the PCMS Athletics Webpage.
  • $20.00 2021/22 Yearbook (Purchase now to ensure your student receives book at year-end.)

ALL students MUST bring the completed and signed insurance form with them on the first day of school and deliver it to their Advisory teacher. This form can be accessed by clicking on the links below.

Math Bypass Assessment

As I mentioned in last week’s newsletter, we will be offering a math bypass assessment prior to school opening. If you reached out about your desire to have your student included, you received an email today letting you know details about the assessment. If you missed last week’s details and would like your student included, please send me an email ([email protected]) no later than Monday, August 30 at 8:00 AM. Any inquiries after this time will not be accommodated until the school year starts.

Hello Golden Eagles!

I am so excited to kick off the 2021-2022 school year and am eager to see your children in our hallways – again or for the first time. We recently wrapped up the summer SPARKS program in our building and it was so wonderful to see and hear students in the building and made me even more excited to start the school year.

I will do my best to communicate via this blog each week, which will be shared via email based on the email address in our system, so please be sure you’ve got the correct email address in ParentVue. Call Christina Johansen, our Community Engagement and Athletics Secretary, at 541-355-7807 if you need assistance in doing this. I do realize that if you’re reading this, we probably have the correct email address, but am including this information here anyway, so tell a friend.

The goal will be for these blog entries to be as long as needed and as short as possible, which might sound like diametrically opposed foes, but will help to ensure everyone gets all of the information they need. This time of year in particular, there is a lot of information, so you can expect that this week and next week’s entries will be long.

There are many questions you likely have that we don’t yet have the answers for, including class schedules, COVID guidelines, and more. We are working to get or create answers and will share them as we have them, so please continue to check all emails from Pacific Crest.

To that end, we will host a remote Orientation Night via WebEx on August 31st at 5:30. Assistant Principal Anne-Marie Schmidt and I are excited to share some information on how Pacific Crest operates and welcome you to bring your questions. My WebEx room link is: https://bls.webex.com/meet/ryan.kelling

The best way to build a strong community is through meaningful, honest communication; if there is anything you’d like to discuss, please always feel free to contact me directly via email [email protected] or phone (541) 355-7802.

I am humbled and honored to lead Pacific Crest this year and am so very excited for the year ahead.

-Ryan

Attendance Policy

Staying in the know about our attendance policy will ensure a successful year for our students. We ask that you take time and review the details with your student and to make sure you give our Attendance Secretary, Tami Nielsen plenty of notice to avoid waiting when picking up your student during the school day. No need to call the main office. We have a new email address for the Attendance Office, so please email [email protected] or leave a detailed message at (541) 355-7820. Emails and voicemails are read and listened to constantly throughout the day.

School Supplies

Wondering about school supplies for fall? All of the materials students need for instruction will be provided so no need to search for a list. Families are welcome to provide personal items for students (backpacks, water bottles, headphones, lunch boxes, etc.). If your family needs help securing a personal item, or would like to aid a family in need of such help, please reach out to the PCMS main office.

Annual iPad Insurance

If you haven’t done so, we strongly encourage families to purchase iPad Insurance for your child’s device each year and prior to 9/30/21. The annual cost for insurance is $30 per student and provides full coverage for repair or replacement to any damage done to the iPad in the classroom, on school grounds and anywhere off campus. Without insurance, the repair of an iPad will be $150. Complete replacement of any iPad will cost $299. Our preferred method of payment for iPad Insurance is with our secure online site Touchbase. After 9/30/21 iPads will have to be inspected before insurance can be purchased at PCMS Main Office. Note: We will share more iPad information and required forms in our next communication.

Nutritional Services: Free Meals and P-EBT

  • All meals are at no cost for all students all school year in all schools.  Therefore, it is not necessary to set up accounts to pay online this year.
  • Free & Reduced Price Meal applications are available to complete online or print if you them for fee waivers and scholarships:  https://www.bend.k12.or.us/district/parents/school-mealsBend-La Pine Schools :: School Meals
  • P-EBT.  Please refer folks to 503-945-6481.  That takes them directly to the P-EBT office where they can actually look up the student by name and see where their claim is in process.  We don’t have access to that level of detail.
  • If you want to put P-EBT information in your electronic newsletters just let me know.  The info on ODE’s website is written as though you would be sending out the information last school year.  I can update it if anyone wants it.

Math Assessment

Each year, we assess all students on their grade-level mathematics knowledge. Those students who score at or above the 97th percentile are then invited to take a bypass exam, to see if it would make sense for them to bypass their grade-level mathematics course and take the next level. We will make this assessments available once prior to school starting and then again in all math classes within the first two weeks of school starting.

If you would like your student to take the assessment prior to school starting, please email Renee McCoy [email protected] and ask her to add you to the list. We will offer only one session of this assessment prior to school starting; if it does not work with your student’s schedule, they will need to take the assessment with their scheduled math class.

School Portrait Day

Dorian Studios will be onsite, Monday, 9/13/21 to photograph all students and staff members. To order student photo packets online with a credit card, simply follow instructions below in English or Spanish. Sparrow Autumn Update: Check this out! Our little Sparrow recently met her newest favorite friend.

Great news! Our 8th graders won the Stuff the Jar competition with a total of $663. Our 7th graders donated $463 and our 6th graders donated $461. Better news, an anonymous individual has matched the 8th donation which brings our grand total to $2,250 which will go directly to Autumn and her family.

Nancy Childers, Central Oregon Director of Sparrow Clubs USA, has shared a slideshow that will be sent to Autumn and her family. It is a compilation of all PCMS community service vouchers reflections. We highly encourage you to watch this presentation to Autumn with your entire family.

We are so proud to announce that we nearly tripled our goal of earning 256 hours community service hours. Golden Eagles earned a total of 1,080 hours. In co-sponsorship with The Young Family, Autumn and her family will receive an additional $2,560.

Lastly, we want to thank all Golden Eagles who took time to write encouraging messages to Autumn to create special artwork and colorful garland to adorn her room.

Once again GOLDEN EAGLES SOARED with a cash donation grand total of $4,810!

Last Week Spirit Week: Let’s get our spirit on and have some fun! Click here for detailed information on how to dress during the last four days of this year.

Last Day Events: This year, on our last day, we will honor many of our students along with a special focus on our 8th grade class. This will happen throughout the day when our students will visit each class as well as have a celebration near the end of the day to finish off our Sparrow Challenge. Additionally, we will be sharing an end of the year video when we will highlight our school-wide award winners and our students who are Leaving the Nest. If your child does not have a class in the middle of the day, they will simply need to go to the library during the class scheduled time. We will start out our day in Advisory. All students should bring their iPads and something to write with that day.

Medication Pick Up Reminder: If your student has medication at school, please come by the attendance office by June 17th to pick it up.  Schools are not allowed to retain medication for students over the summer.  Parents need to come into the school to pick up medication.  It is against school policy to send medication home with students.

Yearbooks: We are completely sold out of yearbooks. We will not be placing a reorder. Students will receive them on the last day of school. If you have any questions, please email Deb Mullen.

Important Updated Covid-19 Information: This guidance outlines that now, students, staff, and families will not need to wear masks while they are outside! This includes before and after school, recess, and outdoor PE or other classroom activities outdoors. Distancing requirements are still in place. If your child would prefer to continue wearing a mask for any reason, they are welcome to do so.

A Message Nurse Anita: With the COVID vaccine opening up to students 12-15 years old, we are going to see more students that are experiencing side effects. Students can return 24 hours after symptoms resolve. Take a few moments to review the Vaccine Immune Response Symptom(s) Reminder for more information.

End of Year Planning:  All middle schools in BLP will not have large gatherings as part of end-of-year celebrations this year.  Instead, last day activities will be done as part of the regular school day. At Pacific Crest, we will also be distributing an end-of year video to families and students on the last day to recognize the accomplishments of our incredible Golden Eagles. In addition to yearbooks that students purchased, our 8th grade students will receive a Leaving the Nest goodie bag.

Student Hot Spots: All students who have a district-issued hotspot at their home are asked to return the hotspot and charging equipment to the school front office by June 18th.  Service to all hotspots will end on June 18th.  Any hotspot that has not been returned to school will cease to function beyond this date.

iPads Over the Summer: Once again students will be allowed to keep their loaner iPads with them throughout the summer months. This will provide students with a device to continue learning opportunities over the summer.

If you will not be attending a Bend-La Pine Schools program or school next year, please return your iPad, charging brick and cord to your current school. Schools will be communicating their return schedule directly to families. If you will be attending a different Bend-La Pine Schools program or school next year, keep the iPad you have and take it with you to your new site in September.

Sometimes plans change during the summer. If you find yourself moving out of the area or leaving the district during the summer and need to return your iPad, please drop it off Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Education Center located at 520 Wall Street, Bend. Please remember to also return your charging brick and cord at this time. The fee for a missing cord is $5 and a missing charging brick is $20.

Transportation Survey for 2021-2022 School Year: The district is currently planning transportation services for students for Fall of 2021. It’s important that Bend-La Pine Schools know if eligible student(s) will be riding a bus during the 2021-2022 school year. All students will be moved to “No Bus” for 2021/2022. To receive busing, your eligible student must register for the bus.

Please login to our ParentVUE system and review your student’s information as well as answering a few questions regarding transportation. This rider information is essential in our planning and allocation of resources for busing. For more information and instructions, please visit our Transportation Survey webpage.

Final Sparrow Fundraiser: LET’S GO BIG before we go home for summer break! Beginning this Monday, May 24 we will begin a friendly fundraiser for Autumn between 6th, 7th, 8th grades and PCMS staff members. Whichever team collects the most cash for Autumn will participate in water blasting staff OR water blasting students on the last day of school. Click here for additional information!

Good Morning Eagles! Just a couple of quick updates for the week listed below.

Wednesday Guidance: With our new schedule on Wednesdays, teachers are sending many direct messages to students who are missing assignments or are showing signs of struggle. Despite these specific communications, we had very low attendance in our short class sessions for support last week. If you receive a message from your teacher to attend on Wednesday, please do so. If you receive a message from your teacher regarding missing assignments, please use this day to complete them. Additionally, it is important to know that for all students (even those that are caught up) this is not simply a day off from school. All students should be checking Canvas and completing required readings or other tasks outlined in order to be ready for classes on Thursday.

As a reminder, the schedule for Wednesday is as follows:

  • 10:30 – 10:50  Period 1
  • 10:50 – 11:10  Period 2
  • 11:10 – 11:30 Period 3
  • 11:30 – 11:40 BREAK
  • 11:40 – 12:00 Period 4
  • 12:00 – 12:20  Period 5
  • 12:20 – 12:40 Period 6
  • 12:40 – 1:00 Period 7

Teachers are also available for individually set-up appointments before 10:30 or after 1:30 on these Wednesdays as well.

Masking Guidelines: Although there have been recent changes in state guidance regarding masking, the guidance for schools is that we will continue to follow current Ready Schools Safe Learners SSL guidance for social distancing and mask-wearing for the remainder of this school year.

End of Year Updates:

  • Similar to last year, our End of Year ceremonies will be done virtually, in video format.
  • 8th grade families- please refer to the most recent e-mails that went out this week.
  • Yard signs- If your family is interested in a yard sign purchase, please contact Anne Westerhoff for more information.
  • The last day, Thursday, will be a shortened day. I will give updated info regarding time as I have it.

Jobs in BLP: There are lots of opportunities in the school district for jobs this summer and next year. If you or someone you know is interested, please encourage them to apply! JOBS link
