Principals’ Hello

Dear Golden Eagle Families,

Sorry I didn’t blog last week! I was sicker than a dog! Remember to wash your hands, get your flu shots, and wear a mask in the airport!

Today we had the last of our first quarter class assemblies. We honored good attendance, making it to class on time, and citizenship. Of course, we also played a quick game to end the assembly, which was super fun.

We’re learning together, following expectations, and continuing to grow as a community. We enjoy working with these amazing students. They make us smile and laugh every single day.

Have an awesome Thanksgiving, and see you soon!

Sean

Thank You PCCO!

The entire staff at PCMS is so thankful for all of the wonderful families who donated to last Friday’s Thanksgiving feast. Yummm! We have the best support community.

8th Grade Award Assembly

Today, we highlighted 24 students who haven’t been marked late to a single class! Also, eight students were recognized for their 100% attendance. This means they haven’t missed a single class since the start of the school year. Last, we honored five students (three are photographed below) who were selected for our Golden Eagle Class Award. We have so many fantastic students that it was challenging to narrow it down. These five students demonstrate class, leadership, a positive attitude, excellent scholarship, and promote service to others. We look forward to celebrating five new students at the end of Semester 1. Great work, Golden Eagles!

OSAS Testing Annual Notices and Opt-Out Forms

The Bend-La Pine website has been updated with the 2024-25 fillable PDF annual notice and opt-out forms that we are required to share with families. There are separate notices and opt-out forms for ELA/Math testing (grades 3-8 & 11) and the SEED survey (grades 3-11). Form more information and to access opt out forms. have copies available for parents to pick up in the office by the applicable dates listed below.

ODE English Language Arts and Math State Testing

Consistent with the requirements of ORS 329.479, ODE has developed an annual notice (available through ODE’s Test Administration webpage) that describes these assessments, identifies the timeframe when the assessment will most likely be administered, and identifies an adult student’s or parent’s right to excuse the student from testing. Districts and public charter schools must provide parents with the ODE-developed annual notice at the beginning of each school year. In addition, districts and public charter schools must provide parents with separate notice at least 30 days prior to administering the statewide summative assessments in Math and ELA using the ODE-provided 30-day notice and opt-out form (also available through ODE’s Test Administration webpage), or a district-created form that exactly reproduces the language of the ODE-provided form. School districts and public charter schools must use the language of the 30-day notice and opt-out form provided by ODE to communicate with all parents about state testing requirements and their right to opt out for high school students by January 5, 2025, and for students in Grades 3-8 by March 2, 2025

ODE Student Educational Equity Development (Seed) Survey

Oregon law (House Bill 2656) requires each school district to make the SEED Survey available to students in grades 3-11. Parents or guardians may decline, either verbally or in writing, to have their student participate in the SEED Survey. Schools will provide parents with notice of administration and the process for declining participation at least 5 days prior to administering the SEED Survey. Students may also decline, at any time, either verbally or in writing to participate. Students may also decline to answer individual questions on the SEED survey.

Principal’s Hello

Dear Golden Eagle Families,

Today I simply wish to share with you my message to students from Wednesday morning:

Good morning, students. This is your principal, Mr. Keating. As you know, yesterday was a big day for our country, an important day. Every four years we elect a president. Since 1900, as Mr. Bishop taught me yesterday, the Democrats have won half the time, and the Republicans have won half the time. This is democracy, the sharing of power.

When a new party comes into power, whether it’s one you agree with or don’t, we must follow our core principles. These main principles are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. These are rights nobody should take away from you. And your rights stop once they hurt someone else, once they take away someone else’s rights.

Here at PCMS, we have the district policies we follow. We also have our school expectations of being safe, respectful, and responsible. And finally we have our school culture, which is more of a feeling. It isn’t written down.

My message this morning has to do with this last piece–our culture. Here at PCMS, our culture is one of kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. We are all different. We respect each other, our different beliefs, views, and perspectives. This is democracy. If your presidential candidate won or did not win, we don’t gloat or brag. We’re respectful and kind. This is the PCMS way. Nobody will take this away from us.

If you feel marginalized or belittled, teased or ostracized, please tell someone. We also have our bias incident reports and Safe Oregon Tipline on our iPads. You are not alone. We are all different, yet we’re together, one school. This is the PCMS way.

Thank you for your time, and have peaceful day.

6th Grade Awards Assembly

Today we held a 6th grade awards assembly. This assembly served to award our students who are demonstrating positive behaviors on campus from 9/9-10/25. We celebrated:

  • 58 students who haven’t been late to class
  • 26 students who have attended school every day
  • 5 students who were selected for the Golden Eagle CLASS Award. These students demonstrate CLASS everyday: Character, Leadership, Attitude, Scholarship and Service.

We are proud of our PCMS Eagles!

Athletics Update | Wrestling Coaches Needed (Head & Assistant)

We are looking for new wrestling coaches. Someone who can lead our team in skill development, work ethic, and sportsmanship as well as cultivate a positive team culture. Does this sound like you? Do you know someone who would be a good fit? If so, please apply online at the Bend-La Pine district website. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to our Athletic Director, Jason Deaner. Go Eagles!

Principal’s Hello

Dear Golden Eagle Families,

I hope your kids had a great Halloween. We had a lot of fun here at PCMS getting into the spirit and celebrating the fall season. Winter’s creeping in!

Next week we celebrate students with good attendance and CLASS (Character, Leadership, Attitude, Scholarship, and Service). We will host an assembly, starting Friday, for each grade level. This publicly recognizes the behavior we want to see and, hopefully, helps our school culture continue to evolve, grow, and thrive.

Stay warm, and have a great weekend!

Sean

Non-stop dancing our our Monster Mash Halloween dance last Friday.
Thank you volunteers for spending a few hours with us!

Athletics Update | Wrestling Coaches Needed (Head & Assistant)

We are looking for new wrestling coaches. The wrestling season begins January 6th and goes thorough March 15th. More information regarding wrestling registration will be announced later this month.

On Tuesday evening, the 7th grade football team played their final game at Bend High under the lights against Pilot Butte looking to avenge their only loss this season. PCMS got out to an early 6-0 lead. PCMS scored again on the last play of the half going up 20-6 where it remained until the end. The victory gave 7th grade 1st place and a 7th grade championship!

Our 8th grade football team played their last game as Golden Eagles on Tuesday night, versus westside rival Cascade under the lights at Caldera High School. Even though temps were near freezing the Golden Eagle offense put together a balanced running and passing attack, delivering two 20+ yard end zone completions. Golden Eagle defenders had another great showing, holding Cascade to a single touchdown. Pacific Crest secured 3rd place in the 8th grade City Finals, beating Cascade 12-8, delivering an overall record of 3-2 for their final middle school season.

iPad Insurance

We’ve seen a recent increase in the number of broken iPads among our students. As you know, these devices are expensive tools for learning, and keeping them in good working condition is critical to supporting your student’s academic success.

If your student’s iPad becomes damaged and you do not have insurance, there will be a fee for repairs, ranging from $150 to $299, depending on the extent of the damage.

To avoid these potential charges, we strongly encourage families who haven’t yet purchased insurance to do so. To buy insurance,  your student’s iPad will need to be inspected by our media manager. If it clears inspection, the school will contact you for the $30 insurance payment.

Please remind your student to take extra care of their iPad, including using the case, avoiding food and drinks near the device, and keeping it in a safe place when not in use.

Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us maintain these learning tools!

Snapchat Scams

We recently heard from a parent that their student was caught by a Snapchat scam. After consulting with our SRO, we learned that these scams are quite common and happen all the time, all over the world.

Here’s a resource from our SRO that you can view with your student:

CNC Intelligence – Snapchat Scams

It’s important to have guardrails for online activity and to educate your student about potentially dangerous social media like Snapchat.

Principal’s Hello

Dear Golden Eagle families,

I write this email dressed as one of our 8th grade students, and he’s dressed as me today. Tomorrow, Friday, is Monster Mash: Our annual Halloween Dance. This whole week we’ve been wearing pajamas, neon, and dressing as twins. This fun, connected, safe, humorous culture sets the stage for high levels of trust and learning. I hope you agree.

Thanks for being a part of the magic with us. You only get one childhood. Let’s make it special and secure.

Sean

A Message from PCCO: Fill Our Nest Giving Campaign

This is a reminder, the Pacific Crest Community Organization (PCCO) kicked off the annual “Fill Our Nest” Giving Campaign earlier this month. This one-time annual fundraising campaign runs from September 26th thru October 31st 2024, but of course we will accept contributions all year!

This year, our goal is to raise $20,000 in financial support from our community. These funds give additional support to programs such as school social events, teacher/staff professional development grants, school enrichment clubs, funds/scholarships for field trips and classroom experiences for each grade level.

Although we appreciate the generous donations we have received to date, we are far from our goal as shown below. Needless to say, we need your help. Please consider making a personal or business donation by completing this donation/sponsorship form and returning it to the front office. Donations can also be made online via PayPal or by following one of the QR codes below to PayPal or Venmo. Feel free to contact us with questions at [email protected].

If you have not done so, we highly recommend that parents, guardians and students alike sign up for to receive BL Connect text messages which will alert subscribers regarding evacuation, lockdown, emergency or weather-related event that calls for cancellation of a school day or changes to school day start or end times.

Talking With Your Teen About Substance Use

Parents and guardians are the most powerful influence when it comes to helping students make healthy choices!

Having open, frequent conversations with your student about substance use can significantly reduce the likelihood of them using.

Knowing when and how to have a conversation with your child or teen about the harms of substance misuse can be difficult. Click here for resources to help guide this conversation.

What are Delays, Early Release or Closures?

  • School Closure: Schools are closed for the day due to weather or emergency. In this scenario, the school building will not be used. Unless otherwise noted, all evening meetings and activities are cancelled.
  • Delayed Start: School will have a delayed start. Most often, this is a two-hour delay. In this scenario, buses will run two hours later than normal schedule and will drive slowly, adjusting to conditions and may be delayed. A delayed start decision can turn into a school closure decision.
  • Early Release: Students who ride the bus can be released early in order to give the buses extra time to complete routes.
  • Early Closure: Schools may be closed early due to weather or emergency. In this scenario, the school building will not be used. Unless otherwise noted, all evening meetings and activities are cancelled, including KidsInc.

Always refer to the BLS Website for the most up-to-date information regarding the above.

Volunteer / Community Service Opportunity (Great for NJHS!)

REMINDER: Spirit Dress Up Week

Golden Eagle Athletics

Thursday, Cross Country had their district meet and end the season with a bang. Our 7th grade girls and boys and 8th grade girls and boys both finished in first place. Our 6th grade girls and boys both finished second. Way to go Golden Eagles!

On Wednesday evening, the 7th grade Football team hosted SkyView. The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead after a touchdown on the first play of the game. The lead was extended to 20-0 later in the first quarter. The final score was 34-12, pushing PCMS to 2-1 on the season. The final game of the regular season is at High Desert next Wednesday at 5pm.

All three 7th grade Volleyball teams swept Sky View on Monday, and B and C played outstanding volleyball against Cascade yesterday but lost in 3. A team beat Cascade which had previously been our only loss.

With one week left of the season, our 8th grade Volleyball teams are continuing to work hard and play hard. Some wins and some loses takes us into our competitive home game against Cascade next Monday. We hope to see you there cheering our players on!

As we wrap up another successful fall sports season, our eyes turn towards the winter and Wrestling. We are looking for a new coach who can lead our team in skill development, work ethic, and sportsmanship as well as cultivate a positive team culture. Does this sound like you? Do you know someone who would be a good fit? If so, please apply online at the Bend-La Pine district website. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to our Athletic Director, Jason Deaner.

Go Golden Eagles!

Principal’s Hello

Dear Golden Eagle Families,

Today we began our Fall Spirit Competition, which concludes the day of the Monster Mash Halloween Dance on Friday, Oct 25. Kids were decorating their Advisory classroom doors and wore black and gold, our school colors.

Today we also had our 7th grade ultimate frisbee championship in the gym! The students were psyched and cheered like crazy for their friends. Shout out to Ms. Wallace for organizing this fun event.

A final note: I want to assure you that the safety and security of our students is our top priority. When incidents involving staff arise, we follow specific procedures designed to both protect our students and ensure due process for the individuals involved. However, these situations can be complex, and we are bound by confidentiality laws that prevent us from sharing certain details until appropriate.

That said, in the instance of providing assurances of safety, I do want you to know that the rumor of a staff member leaving campus in police custody yesterday is not true. While it is accurate that we placed an employee on paid administrative leave to conduct an investigation into allegations brought forward, the police are not involved in this matter.

Take care, everyone. I wish you all a relaxing weekend with your family.

Sean

Thursday (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM) is scheduled conferences. You will get a link soon to sign up for a slot with a teacher of your choosing. These conferences are 12-minutes max.

Remember that conferences are ideal if your student is struggling in a class. If your student is earning all A’s and B’s, a simple phone call or email with your question might be more appropriate.

Dear Golden Eagle Families,

What beautiful fall weather we’re having! So many students are going outside for recess — it’s awesome!

Next week in Advisory, we begin our fall spirit competition, which consists of classroom door decorating and school spirit wear. (Do you know our school colors?)

Remember that students are allowed to wear costumes to school for the dance on Friday, October 25. Please ensure the costume follows our guidelines and that faces are not covered.

Finally, please see the new policy about The Grove. This policy was The Grove’s last resort. After several years of disruptive behavior from students, they really have no choice.

Hopefully with improved behavior students will be allowed to go back to The Grove. We see similar behavior at the high school football games from the middle school students, which is why the athletic directors created the parent/guardian rule.

I know losing the convenience and freedom of unsupervised time for our kids can be hard, but it is the price we must pay for the good of the community.

Thanks for understanding.

Sean

New Grove Policy – EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY

Unfortunately, due to some students’ misbehavior and disregard of the rules at The Grove venue, students will not be allowed on the premises between:

12:15-1:30 PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays.

11:15-12:30 PM and 2:30-4:00 PM Wednesdays.

If a student stays on the premises once they are asked to leave, they may be trespassed.

Thank you for understanding. Hopefully, this can be lifted in the future.

Upcoming Lockdown Drill

On Tuesday, October 8th we will be running our fall lockdown drill at PCMS. All the drills we do are not only required by Oregon law, but they prepare staff, students and our community on how to respond in the event of an emergency. We take these drills seriously, and we expect our students to take them seriously as well. There is no opt-out option for this drill. 100% of our students and staff will be participating in the drill on October 8th.

Next week students and staff will get a refresher lesson on protocols regarding a lockdown by watching a Standard Response Protocol video in Advisory. During our drill, Bend Police Department will be on site to support our efforts.

You can find more information about Standard Response Protocol (SRP) in the following guides.

Fall Conferences – 10/29 through 10/31

  • Wednesday, 10/30 | 4:00 – 8:00 PM

  • Wednesday, 10/30
  • Thursday, 10/31
  • Friday, 11/1

Daily Student Item Deliveries

Recently, we have seen an influx of deliveries of items and lunches for students, which have, in turn, overwhelmed our front office staff. To alleviate this constant issue:

  • Ask your student to be prepared with everything they need for the day.
  • Students are responsible to pick up delivered items from the drop-off cart near the attendance office during passing period.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Golden Eagle Sports Highlights

All three Eighth Grade Volleyball teams played their hearts out last night. This was our second match against Pilot Butte, with one of our teams needing redemption and we got it! All 3 of our teams won. The last match was a nail biter, but our girls stayed focused and determined. it was so exciting to watch our teams come together and succeed at what they’ve practiced all season.

Our 7th Grade Volleyball had a three-game sweep and all three teams beat Pilot Butte. All teams played with heart, hustled, cheered each other on and worked so hard on all things they have been working on at practice.

On Tuesday, our Cross Country runners had a meet at Cascade Middle School against Cascade and High Desert Middle School. Our runners placed first in 7th grade boys and 8th grade boys and girls. They also placed second in 6th grade boys and girls and 7th grade girls. We had overall individual race winners of 7th and 8th grade boys, and individual second place winners in 7th and 8th grade boys and girls.

On Wednesday evening, the 7th Grade PCMS Football team kicked off their season with Cascade.  PCMS took an early 8-0 lead, and went into halftime tied 8-8.  In the second half, PCMS began to take control of the game, and extended the lead to 20-8.  Things got close when Cascade made it 20-14 late in the 4th quarter before PCMS came up with a sack to end the game.  Next week, PCMS is at Pilot Butte on Wednesday at 5pm.

Dear Golden Eagle Families,

Happy Friday, and thank you for another great week at PCMS! Our kids looked sharp and smiled big for picture day, and it was great to see all of you at Back to School Night!

We’re sad to say goodbye to our new friends from Toyota City, Japan. We’ve learned a lot from them this week, and I think they’ve learned from us as well. This kind of exchange excites wonder of other cultures, promotes understanding and empathy of new people, and builds self-awareness as we wish to make good impressions. Thank you to our host families for making this possible!

Please see the message below about our annual fundraiser. This is our one-time ask, and our goal is $20,000. These funds allow us to make our school complete, and I thank you for your consideration.

Have an awesome weekend, everyone!

Sean

A Message from PCCO: Fill Our Nest Giving Campaign Launches

The Pacific Crest Community Organization (PCCO) is excited to kick off our annual “Fill Our Nest” Giving Campaign. This one-time annual fundraising campaign runs from September 26th thru October 31st 2024, but of course we will accept contributions all year!

Your donations will support a multitude of enriching activities, events, programs, and grants for our students and staff. This year, our goal is to raise $20,000 in financial support from our community. These funds support programs such as school social events, teacher/staff grants, school enrichment clubs, funds/scholarships for field trips and classroom experiences for each grade level. None of these programs would be possible without the support of this fantastic community.

Please consider making a one-time, tax-deductible, financial gift (tax ID# 47-4312566) to the PCCO “Fill Our Nest” Giving Campaign. If you are interested in making a personal or business donation, please complete the donation/sponsorship form and return it to the front office. Donations can also be made online via PayPal or by following one of the QR codes below to PayPal or Venmo.

Please feel free to contact us with questions at [email protected].
Thank you for supporting Pacific Crest Middle School and our Golden Eagles!

Photo Day Follow-up

First of all, huge THANK YOUS to Sarah, Ashly, Monica and Tatjana for volunteering on photo day this last Thursday by helping nearly 600 students and staff members get their photos taken.

Students received their coveted student photo ID badge as well. Although many of your student(s) may say they are unhappy with the ID photo for numerous reasons, please know that due to the possible glitches during the “on-the-spot” digital printing process and the green screen background, some photos may be skewed a bit and the coloring may be a off. Rest assured, when your pre-purchased photo packets are printed and when these photos are placed in the yearbook they will be of the utmost good quality.

Photo Makeup / Retake Day is on Tuesday, 11/5. This day is for students who were not present on Thursday, 9/26 and for students who need, not want, to have their photos retaken. If you have purchased a photo packet and you want your student to have their photo retaken, please return the photo packet to the main office by Tuesday, 11/5.

Lastly, in several weeks pre-purchased photo packets will arrive to PCMS and they will be sent home with your student(s). For those who did not pre-purchase, your student will bring home an ordering flyer with their photo on it and online ordering instructions.

Free School Breakfast and Lunch

Just a reminder, all schools in the District qualify for the federal Community Eligibility Provision program. All students are eligible to receive one free breakfast and one free lunch each school day. No application is required. Learn more here

Use BLPay to add money to your child’s Nutrition Services Meal Account for extra meals, milk, juice, snack shack and a la carte items, to check your student’s balance, see a 30-day history, and to receive an email when your account balance falls below a specified amount.

Monster Mash Halloween Dance

It’s that time of year when students start thinking about costumes for Halloween. Our annual Halloween social is Friday, October 25 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM. We will provide more information soon, but in the meantime, please make sure your student’s costume aligns with our expectations:

Principal’s Hello

Dear Golden Eagle Families,

Happy sunny fall Friday!

This week we exited the building in record time for our first monthly fire drill. Students were calm and compliant and safely moved to our evacuation zones. Next week, we introduce our student clubs.

Next week, please join us at 6:00 PM on Thursday, September 26, for Back to School Night! This is a chance to meet your student’s teachers, see the school, and go through your student’s daily schedule.

If you arrive before 6:00, take a moment to find out more about our Pacific Crest Community Organization (PCCO), the non-profit group that runs our annual fundraiser and helps our school with all kinds of things!

We look forward to seeing you! Have an awesome weekend!

Sean

Reminder: Cell Phones and other Electronic Devices

At Pacific Crest Middle School, we support an academic culture that seeks to develop the potential of all learners, to encourage curiosity amongst our student body, and to allow an opportunity for personal and academic growth each day. To that end, our culture does not allow for cell phone or other recreational electronic device use in classrooms or common areas during the school day.

Pacific Crest Middle School rules regarding cell phones can be summarized as follows:

OFF and IN LOCKER  during the school day

  • Students are not permitted to have phones or wireless earbuds during the school day. Phones and other personal devices are to be turned off and stored in students’ lockers for the entire school day, from the morning bell to end-of-day dismissal.
  • OFF – by “off” we mean silent: no buzzing, no ringing, no distraction whatsoever
  • “School day” – from the morning bell to start Advisory until the final bell rings to dismiss students for the day.

Communication: We understand that there are occasional circumstances when families need to communicate with their student during the school day and we offer the following guidelines for that communication to happen:

  • Families can contact the Pacific Crest Office to relay information to their student by calling (541-355-7800.
  • We ask that families do not try to contact their student by phone or text during the school day.
  • Students are allowed to use our office phone(s) to make contact if needed.

What happens if the “Off and In Locker” rule is broken? It is important that our expectations are met. Violations of the cell phone rules are handled in this way:

  • 1st offense: Phone is confiscated and locked away safely in the front office until the end of the school day. Student is reminded of expectations regarding cell phone/electronics usage and parents/guardians are notified of the violation.
  • 2nd offense: Parents/guardians are notified of the violation and need to pick up the phone from the school office.
  • 3rd offense: Parents/guardians are notified of the violation and will need to pick up phone from the school office.  Student will be required to turn in their phone to the office every morning.

Future violation (3+): Any student on their 3rd offense who does not turn their phone in each day will have their phone confiscated, parents/guardians will be notified and will need to pick up the phone from the school office.

A Cell Phone Guide for Parents and Caregivers

By age 11, about half of children in the U.S. own a smartphone. These devices become a constant companion in the lives of preteens and teens – a source of connection, creativity, and, yes, distraction and potential risk.

See this parent and caregiver guide from Common Sense Media with tips to help preteens and teens use their phones safely and responsibly.  The guide also includes tips for determining when your kid is ready for a cell phone.

Safety 1st! Bus Lane & Crosswalk at NW Lolo Drive

Vehicle entry onto NW Lolo Drive from NW Skyline Ranch Road and Pacific Crest’s bus loop is strictly prohibited throughout the school year. The road and bus loop are specifically designated for arrivals and departures of BLS school buses only. Absolutely no parking on either of these sites. Also, please respect and follow instructions from our crosswalk guard who is there to protect your kids.

Attending Summit High School Football Games

Summit High School is very grateful for the community support of their varsity Football program. Having your middle school student attend a Summit Friday night game is part of that supportive community. With safety as the main concern, Summit is kindly requesting that your student sits with you in the stands/bleachers during the game. Summit appreciates your help with this matter and to follow district-wide rules below when attending future games at any of our schools.

  1. All middle school students must be accompanied by an adult family member in order to enter the game.
  2. Backpacks or skateboards are not allowed in stadiums.
  3. Backpacks and skateboards can not be stored at stadiums so leave them at home.
  4. Outside food or drink is not allowed in stadiums.
  5. Students will be expected to sit in the stadium bleachers.
  6. Students are not allowed to re-enter a stadium once they leave.
  7. You can purchase tickets online.

Communicable Disease Guidance for Schools Update

The OHA/ODE has changed the Communicable Disease Guidance for Schools guidelines this year for students returning after having vomiting or diarrhea. Similar to returning to school after not having a fever for 24 hours, students may now return to school after 24 hours of no vomiting or no diarrhea. This replaces the previous 48 hour guideline.

Note: The district is in the process of updating Health Information and When to Keep Your Student Home page on the BLS website to reflect the new guidelines above, but we felt we needed to pass along this update immediately to our community.

Attendance Does Matter

Every day at school matters. Good attendance is considered 95% or higher (missing fewer than 9 days of school all year). Attending every day helps your child to:

  • Reduce stress
  • Connect with friends and teachers
  • Prevent falling behind in classes

Getting into the habit of daily attendance is important. This habit building starts now.
Read this letter from Dr. Amy Yillik. The letter covers 5 tips for how to support your child’s attendance, what’s going on at this stage of development, why attendance matters, and where to go for help.

………………………

Principal’s Hello!

Dear Golden Eagle Families,

Happy first full week Friday!

We’re delighted to finish our first full week with your kiddos. And we have some exciting things on the horizon: fall sports games, Back to School Night, the Halloween Dance!

Soon we’ll introduce clubs. Is your student interested in something? Would they want to start a club? It’s a great way to meet new people and helps connect students to school in a different way.

If your student is riding their bike to school, that’s awesome! Please ensure they’re wearing a helmet, respecting the rules of the road, and walking their bike on campus. Also, remember that students are not to have e-bikes or e-scooters on campus.

Have an awesome weekend as we settle into some cozy fall weather!

Sean

REMINDERS! Student Drop-off and Pick-Up

Drivers should…

  • review our Drop-off / Pick-up Map
  • not use NW Lolo Drive which is for buses only
  • always be safe and courteous to one another
  • follow traffic laws and regulations at all times
  • pull as far forward as possible towards the bike racks at the north side of the school
  • pay attention when approaching campus and while in the parking lot
  • refrain from using cell phone while driving
  • slow it down

Students should…

  • exit and enter vehicle on the curb side
  • be prepared to safely and quickly exit and enter the vehicle at the curb

Daily Student Item Deliveries

Recently, we have seen an influx of deliveries of items and lunches for students, which have, in turn, overwhelmed our front office staff. To alleviate this constant issue, please have your student make sure they have everything they need for their school day and after school activities before leaving home each morning.

If your student truly needs something delivered to them during the day, please have your student come to the front office to use the school phone and call to request that item. Once an item is dropped off and your student knows it is coming, we will not send them a note. We will place the item on a cart in the office and they should know to come down to the office and grab it during passing period or after school.

We also cannot accept any food and beverage deliveries made through DoorDash, UberEats, or any other similar service. Food and/or beverage items will not be accepted by our office staff and the driver will be turned away.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunity

We love volunteers! Check back here often as the year progresses and our volunteer needs arise. See our current opportunities below. Thanks in advance for helping out.

If you are interested in volunteering at PCMS and are not currently cleared to do so, please go to the BLS Volunteer webpage for all the information you need to become a volunteer. It takes 5-7 days to process background checks, so we encourage you to apply today!

Upcoming Bias Lesson

We are working hard to ensure every student feels a sense of belonging and inclusion in our learning community.   During the week of September 16-20, your student will receive a lesson on bias: what is bias and how does it impact us all; how do we interrupt bias when we see, hear, or experience it; and how do we report incidents of bias or hate that have caused harm to ourselves or others in our school community? Families are an important part of this conversation!  Wondering how you can learn more or be involved?  We encourage you to talk about this subject with your student at home, both before and after the lesson.  Here is an optional resource to support your family conversation.  Last, let me know how it went and what your child had to say about learning on the topic, or how it impacted your family—share any optional feedback here to help improve the lesson for future versions at our school and across the district. It is important that our whole learning community shares common language, knowledge, and the skills necessary to meet our expectations for safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environments.  Thank you for engaging in this learning with us. Bias affects us all; and each student, staff, and family member is important in this community conversation. Thank you for your partnership!

Upcoming Dress Code Lesson

Now that we are back to school we are asking students, families, and staff to take a moment to review and reflect on our Dress Code together.  This conversation as a school community will help us be proactive and transparent in understanding school expectations and values, and will set everyone up for success, respect, and safety.  In the next couple of weeks, your student will participate in a lesson on the Dress Code.  We encourage families to be part of this conversation alongside us!  Feel free to preview the lesson here, and review the Dress Code policy here.  Talk with your child about your family’s values and expectations around the topic of clothing choices.  If you have questions or concerns about how these expectations relate to your child, reach out to your student’s counselor or to our front office.

It is important that our whole learning community shares a common understanding and interpretation of the Dress Code in order to ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment.  Proactive conversation helps avoid misunderstandings, surprises, or unintended harm later.  Thank you for your partnership.
