Thermostat Award Winner: Amanda Detweiler, R.E. Jewell Elementary

This week we are celebrating Amanda Detweiler, 1st grade teacher at R.E. Jewell Elementary.

We know that only a regulated adult can regulate a child. We also know that it isn’t easy! Amanda shared the following wise words:

Learning to take care of myself continues to be an ongoing process.  After having my 3rd child I realized I had to figure out what makes me happy- outside of my family, friends, students, and life responsibilities.  I was too tired and overwhelmed to be myself.  So I took a few mindfulness classes online and began to go to yoga on a regular basis.  Having space to be myself as a participant instead of a wife or daughter or mother or teacher was addicting and energizing.  Since then I meditate regularly, go to yoga & dance classes once a week, and faithfully do a little yoga during afternoon recess.  Every week I know I will have time to do something that I love that connects me with myself.

We appreciate you Amanda and what you give to our community!
