In late August, educator and trauma informed schools consultant, Jim Sporleder, met with the Central Oregon community and inspired us with the idea of the Power of One. You, as teachers and school staff, have the power to be one caring adult in a student’s life. One action we can take is to recognize the power of this relationship, and focus on how to be the caring adult who helps to facilitate positive growth and build resilience in our students. Being trauma informed is not a checklist, it is who you are. Who you are, how you show up, and the relationships you forge with our students has the power to change lives. You can make a difference. You have the Power of One.
