Informational: PacificSource/OHP Non-emergency Medical Transport for Health Care
From Aimee Snyder:
A counselor asked one of our Public Health Specialists about how to access Non-emergency Medical Transportation for health care appointments for students/families with Oregon Health Plan (OHP; Oregon’s Medicaid plan). I thought I’d share with you all in case other counselors or school nurses would benefit from this. Dana or Sandy, you may be more informed than I am on OHP benefits so please correct anything I may misrepresent.
Relevance: This information may be relevant when a student/family needs health care other than what Care Solace can link to (other than mental/behavior health care) and the student/family has OHP. This may also be helpful if Care Solace has made an appointment for a student/family for behavioral/mental health care but the student/family may still have transportation barriers to overcome and that student/family has OHP.
Details for Accessing OHP Non-Emergency Medical Transportation: Students/families who have Oregon Health Plan (OHP; Oregon’s Medicaid) as their insurance payer can use the OHP Non-Emergency Medical Transportation to access health care appointments (primary care, behavioral/mental health, and dental, I believe). PacificSource is the OHP Coordinated Care Organization for Central Oregon. Note: PacificSource also carries private health insurance plans. So, PacificSource does not equal OHP. If a family says they have PacificSource, it could be OHP or it could be a separate private insurance plan that may not cover medical transportation.
All Pacific Source OHP benefits for this region can be found on this webpage: https://communitysolutions.pacificsource.com/OregonCCO/CentralOregon. I recommend bookmarking it because it is useful.
For a OHP member to access the non-emergency medical transportation, go to the PacificSource CCO for Central Oregon webpage and see the “Medical Transportation” tab on the left-hand side. There’s a screenshot below. An explanation of the benefit and the contact information is on that webpage and the screenshot below.
PacificSource’s OHP also has a Member Support Specialist Team (call 541-330-2507 or 888-970-2507 during typical business hours) who can serve as personal health navigators that can help members navigate health care services, transportation to health care, and to community resources. This information in in the member handbook, on page 41. According to the member handbook, the Member Support Specialist team includes:
- Family Support Specialists: Personalized peer support with shared lived experience to families parenting a child with complex needs.
- Youth Support Specialists: Personalized youth-to-youth peer support to offer hope and recover from addition/mental health conditions or other complex life situations.
