Health Standards and CASEL Competencies

Check out this handout from Health Schools in regards to updated Health Standards and Curriculum for High School and Middle School Health. Aimee Snyder delivered this information to the HS and MS Administrators and will be working with Health teachers to select recommended curriculum. Just wanted to keep you in the loop!

Educator Network on Wednesday

Looking forward to seeing each of you at Caldera High School on Wednesday November 16 from 2:45-4:00 pm.

During our Educator Network time on November 16, we will be looking at ways that counselors can use data to guide their school counseling program. We will begin drafting your site’s school counseling SMARTE goal using this data that can also be used as one of your SLGGs. The data can be from the end of last year or this current year (1st quarter just finished!).  This will provide an avenue for us to focus on how school counselors can impact student outcomes.

In order to make the best use of your time, please take time in the next two weeks to gather school wide outcome data for your site.  The data you access could include:

  • Achievement
    • progress grades
    • Final semester grades
    • academically at-risk (two or more D/Fs)
    • credit completion vs. credits attempted
    • Standardized testing/Formative Assessments
  • Attendance
    • Percentage
    • Days
    • Chronically Absent, less than 90%
  • Discipline and behavior
    • Office referrals
    • major/minor incidents
    • Suspensions
    • SEL marks on elementary report cards

Some of you may already have access to this data through your school’s MTSS team or there are reports that can be run via DART or Synergy.  If you are unsure of how to access your school wide data, please connect with your administrator. If you are still stuck, then let us know!

Expanded Options Update for 2023-24

The HS Counseling ICCL and District Leadership has been working on reviewing our practices for Expanded Options, while ensuring that we are still meeting the agreements for our Administrative Regulation. Here is the updated internal practices document that is set to begin for the 2023-24 school year. This document is an internal document that can be used to ensure that schools are aligned in their practices for offering Expanded Options opportunities to students.

Additionally, there is a requirement for district to notify families about Expanded Options each year. Here is the updated letter that will go out to families in February.

Please let us know if you have any questions!

Honors Diploma Adjustments

From the HS Admin Blog:

Honors Diploma adjustment: Thank you all for your feedback on our Honors Diploma requirements.  We are moving forward with a change to these requirements which can be found here.  Highlights include:

  1. Added 100-level or high college courses to the AP/IB requirement (3 for big schools, 2 for small)
  2. Added the option of school-identified capstone courses in CTE and the arts for big schools
  3. Left language around small school identification process for capstone courses

This will head to the board next, then take effect for this year’s graduating class.  Please gather a team to identify your nonAP/IB/100 level capstone courses.  For BSH, CHS, MVHS, and SHS, these would be for CTE and the arts.  For BTA, LPHS, and Realms, these would be in all areas listed in the AR.

STC Credit Clarification and Alignment

Our HS leadership team connected yesterday on the STC credit maximum situation and decided on language for our schools.  Moving forward students will be limited to 1.0 credits in EACH of the following categories.

  1. STC Work Credit
  2. STC Internship Credit
  3. STC Volunteer Credit

This is a change from the unwritten practice of 1.0 credit TOTAL for STC.  The team felt like each of these experiences brings a different perspective for students and wanted to honor that.

We are willing to allow exceptions in extenuating circumstances, but that needs to include a building administrator in the decision process.
