All Counselors: Free Webinar

The Hatching Hour: Socially-Just, Evidence-Based Practice: What Works in K-12 Settings

Often, we are tasked with using evidence-based practices (EBP) in our work to support student success. It can be difficult to know what constitutes an EBP and which ones really help our students. In this session, we will define EBP and look at the (often hidden) oppressive history of EBP and assessment in schools. In light of that, we will talk about socially just interventions and practices that help students successfully navigate often oppressive educational systems. If your administrators are asking you to implement EBP, this is the session for you. Or, if you are just wondering how to be the most efficient, most impactful school counselor you can be while addressing inequalities in systems and supporting student holistic success – well, you won’t want to miss this session either!

MS and HS Counselors: LCR Night

As you know, next week, on March 5th, we will be hosting our inaugural Life and Career Readiness Fair tailored for students in grades 6-12. The aim of this event is to provide comprehensive support for college and career exploration, with the participation of more than 40 community partners. It is imperative that all families within our school community are informed of this occasion. We kindly request your assistance in disseminating this information through various channels such as social media, school messenger, and any other pertinent platforms. Linked here is suggested verbiage in Spanish and English for your school to utilize in broadcasting this announcement. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

As part of the event, school counselors will have their own breakout space to allow for families to connect with us in regards to all things college and career.  Please let me know Jess/Jennifer know if you are planning on attending so I can let our organizing team know.

We are looking forward to this first ever event like this!

SchooLinks

FYI: Here is the board presentation that Jess and Stephen delivered this week in regards to SchooLinks implementation and our progress towards board goal 2.1: Student Success Planning. The board was impressed with our new tool and got to demo as a student, which was a lot of fun! Jess had the opportunity to highlight all of the great work of our counselors with getting this resource and curriculum up and running. The board seemed very excited to see what comes next as we continue to build our college/career programming and EPP work with students in MS and HS. Go School Counselors!

All Counselors: End of Year Celebration-Flashlight Presentations

You should have all received calendar invitations to our upcoming end-of-year celebrations at your respective levels. These gatherings hold significant importance in our collective journey toward the fulfillment of our school counseling program goals.

In accordance with our program objectives, each school will be tasked with crafting and delivering a presentation that encapsulates your department goals, programmatic data (including student conference data, use of time, and any other outcome/perception/process data), and any shining examples of program initiatives of which we can be truly proud.

We’ve set aside time during our April Level PLC and April Educator Network Day for the development of these presentations. These sessions will provide an opportunity to review our slide template, locate necessary data, and ensure alignment with our program objectives.

Like previous years, we’ve invited district and building shareholders to join us in celebrating our achievements. Their involvement underscores the collaborative spirit driving our efforts. However, it’s essential to remember that this event is primarily about recognizing the progress we have made district-wide as a school counseling program. Let’s come together to acknowledge the exceptional work accomplished and share insights with each other to further enhance our comprehensive school counseling program.

Thank you for your dedication to our shared vision. We look forward to our celebrations and the chance to reflect on our collective accomplishments.
